| Posted: | | | | OK - this might be a touchy subject for some, however I have been thinking about this for some time, and would like to get a bearing on what the community feels.... First of all - I LOVE this program. I've been an "organizer" all my life, and even kept a file (on paper) of all my VHS films back in the good old VHS days (had about 800 tapes, so it amounted to quite a few pages). What DVDProfiler does regarding keeping a database of my DVD's I have difficulties putting into words - I wouldn't know how to live without it Now, in my opinion, DVDProfiler has a potential to grow bigger, better, more user-friendly and reach a wider audience if enough time and effort were put in it. Don't get me wrong - I am NOT critizising Ken and Gerri, but rather acknowledging the fact that with present contributions rate and forum activity it might be too much to handle. As I've already stated - I would have a really hard time getting over if this site were to shut down due to lack of profitability and/or manpower. Now to the tricky part.... I know that most of us has paid the 30 bucks to get a lifetime subscription with all its benefits, but it seems to me that for this program to reach its full potential we might be better off chipping in some more? How about a small monthly fee, or a 1-year/3-year renewable subscription? Personally I would have no problems whatsoever were such a fee to be implemented - the way I see it the whole community - and it's creators - would benefit from such an arrangement. I might get burned on the stake for even proposing this, but I'll take my chances Keep on rockin', folks!! | | | Berak

| Posted: | | | | Some sort of profiler plus has been discussed for some time now so I doubt you'll get flamed for your suggestion. (although you never know anymore ) What you (and anyone else) could do right now if you really felt that strongly about giving Invelos more $$$ is purchase the Pocket version. Even if you don't have a use for it now it would give a nice boost in sales if everyone who was a premium member added the mobile to their account. Maybe even enough to get a true smartphone feature, then most people could use it now or very soon. At only $18.95 I can't figure out why more haven't paid for it. There are many who have been here for years and years that say they would "re-buy the software" and or "pay monthly fees" yet they haven't helped in the one way that is already available to them. Some even have thousands of DVDs yet haven't paid anything for 5, 6, even 7 years back on topic - depending on the extra content involved I would consider a subscription. I wouldn't be willing to pay one for the program and the online as it is today though. |

Haven't even thought of that... I will put in an order for the Pocket version A.S.A.F.P.... | | | Berak

| Posted: | | | | This is going to sound illogical (mainly because it is), but I have a problem with paying a one-time fee for something I know I'll never need, just to support the development of something else. I'd much rather pay a small recurring fee for something that I actually use. So I would really prefer the old DVD Profiler Plus idea. This is obviously based on emotional reasoning and not economical reasoning. I guess it must be my feminine side... | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users. Gunnar |

| Posted: | | | | Great idea, Rick. When Invelos went dark, I regretted not having made the Mobile purchase. Fortunately, they came back, and I was able at that point to get a PDA and get DVDPM also. I could definitely see myself paying for the mobile product without being ready to use it. But I'm glad that it's no longer an issue for me and I love both versions. I would gladly pay a subscription to get some additional features, such as my own covers online and something along the lines of phpDVDProfiler to replace the existing My Profiler. | | | ...James

| Posted: | | | | If we could get a subscription for greater than 100 dpi images, I would be all over that like Monica on Bill. |

| Posted: | | | | I agree with Gunnar. It's utterly useless to buy a software you know you'll never use. That said, I'll gladly pay for an upgraded online features, or something similar that will come in due time. | | | October 12th, 1985. Interesting opinion, but I hardly think this is necessary. Don't get me wrong, I also love the Profiler and wish Gerri and Ken all the best. But browsing several other DVD forums (German and international) on a regular basis, I have read from an awful lot of people that they registered the Profiler after Version 3 came out. If I remember correctly, Ken once talked about a number of 500.000 user accounts, and I'm sure the vast majority of these were free ones before Version 3. If only a fraction of all these users - let's say 30.000 to 50.000 - decided to buy the Profiler in the last couple of months, my greater fear is that Gerri and Ken soon decide to enjoy the Hawaiian sun for the rest of their lives... | | | Michael |

| Posted: | | | | i would be fine with paying for some sort of profiler 'plus' subscription as i think the current price is a bargain! but what would be the benefit for the (especially new) subscribers? | | | That's the thing about racism, though, most of it is covert.

Greater than 100 dpi scans and low compression ratios would have me signing up ASAP. Of course, it may be awhile to actually get those on the site but it would also compel me to get scanning! |

| Posted: | | | | I have to agree with Gunnar here -
I've stated numerous times that I want to give Ken more money... I bought this program almost 5 years ago and its the best thing ever.
That being said, I don't currently own, or plan to own in the future, a device capable of running the mobile version of the product. If it could run on my smart phone, (windows mobile 6 - non touch edition) i would have already purchased it just to play around and support the company. I would rather donate to the DVD Profiler side of things, then pay for a product I wont use.
Also, of course, I would much prefer to pay for or subscribe to a service - (i'm sure ken is watching this thread, since our feedback in this area greatly affects his livelihood) - as mentioned before, subscription based program would probably be the best long term for the company - If you look at the registered date of many of the users (on the old IVS forums or as I have it - penciled in here) you will see that many many users of this program are very loyal - so the subscription thing would be a good business move.
I would like the following things to be available as premium subscription features - either individually priced a la carte or as a package deal.
fully customizable colors / layout for online database fully searchable online database (yes ctrl+f works, but family & friends are not always computer savvy) ability to include certain personal items from inside the program online as integrated into the customizable database (examples - notes, loaded html, purchase place/price, date of purchase, watched status) hi resolution images for download to local database (no spines, just better quality images - not sure on the copyright laws re: that) personalized sub domain name - (ruineddaydreams.dvdprofiler.com) or even (dvdprofiler.com/ruineddaydreams) as an alternative to the standard online db - makes it easier to tell people where to go when offline. ability to see how many other users have the dvd you have (or to protect the estimated number of users, i would settle for a percentage so... if i add Darkwing Duck - Vol. 2 - i would like to see that 3% of other DVD Profiler users own the same, or maybe it can say 5% of other users in your region own the same) better local statistics - i know they were slightly revamped in v3 - but they still don't work right in my opinion and it's a shame. the return of wishlist price finder
thats all i can think of right now - and i am fully aware that a few of those have legal concerns - but i'm just brainstorming | | | -JoN |

But then those images required during that period should remain on your local machine, even if one would stop paying a fee. So there might be an entrance fee (to update all current images) and a monthly fee for in that month entered DVDs. This offcourse would mean an extra workload for the 'online' part of the software. Then I wouldn't mind paying a monthly fee if every month, or every two, there would be a patch. Or significant changes where one would pay ectra for. I pay magazin subscriptions because every month/week/day I read new stuff. I have to agree with ruineddaydreams with all the online stuff. That would make a subscription worth it, but online front-end stuff doesn't 'help' the programm being better. I for one would like to have a more like this actually give a list of movies that are `more like this`. For example when I select `Snatch.` I want to get a list showin `Layer Cake`, `Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels`, `Love, Honour & Obey` and more (and not only movies one owns). I don't mind paying an extra fee, as long it is reasonable, but it must have added value. I am not going to buy DVD Profiler Mobile even though I don't own a mobile device, and then again, my laptop is mobile enough | | | Jean-Paul |
