Wow.

Many of the users here love very recent films with special effects. Some prefer science fiction and fantasy films, some prefer action films. A few of us love old movies, including classics from the '30s and '40s, some like silent films.

Others here love horror films, and have extensive collections of zombie films.

Some of us like recent TV shows, others like TV shows from the 1950s and '60s. Some get no TV shows at all.

There are some of us who like porno, Girls Gone Wild, and/or wrestling DVDs. Some of us buy many music concert DVDs.

Buy what you like: find DVDs where you enjoy being able to watch them at any time, day or night, without having to rent them one by one.

I could list my most viewed DVDs, but I doubt if anyone else here would share two from my list, nor would many others share more than two or three off anyone else's list.

Seek your own targets... and enjoy.

I have a nice, little movie for you, saw it yesterday.

It's called "You Kill Me", it's directed by John Dahl and you ought to check it out. Great acting by all. And who doesn't love Téa Leoni. Check out all John Dahl movies.

Even limiting it to these two genres, horror and sci-fi you are still going to get 900 opinions.  I will tell you a few of my favorites.  NOTE to all reading this post: This is NOT a definitive list.  I am not going to argue with anyone, this is MY personal preference.  If you do not like my preferences please feel free to post your own.

I hope this list will begin you on your way.  I am sorry if they aren't what you are looking for, you may consider renting them first of buying them cheap in case you don't like them.

Cabin Fever hasn't been mentioned. Wrong Turn and Wrong Turn 2 are both worthy of checking out.

Not sure if they're must haves, that depends on if you like them. I know people's taste in horror varies more than any other genre and what some feel is great, others feel is crap. It's fun watching to find the ones that you'll love though. Enjoy.

I can't lie I did like Tremors.  Then again I love Reba.  So that could be the reason I enjoyed it.  Then again I believe it falls under the sequel rule.  That is a really good movie can have a sequel or maybe two but after that you need to stop before the move gets retarded.  In Tremors case I think they should have stopped with the original.  Take my formula and you will see what I mean.  Example JAWS and JAWS 2.  Great horror flicks a lot of fun.  JAWS 3 & 4 studio screaming please give us more of your money we do not deserve.

I'll focus my list on great movies that are relatively obscure (some more than others), but which I feel deserve a moment in the spotlight. I'll also stick to horror and sci-fi related stuff, or the list will simply grow too long.

Brainscan (90's sci-fi horror)
4D Man (late 50's sci-fi)
Firefly (Joss Whedon sci-fi TV show)
Serenity (movie based on Firefly, watch the show first)
Frailty (excellent horrorish mystery)
The Hidden (80's sci-fi)
Sexmission (Polish 80's sci-fi)
Slither (great 80's throwback horror from 2006)
Strange Days (90's sci-fi mystery)
Primer (indie mind-screw sci-fi)
The Vanishing (horror, the Dutch original)

Some of the stuff in that list I'd count as guilty pleasures (Brainscan, 4D Man, The Hidden, Sexmission) while others (pretty much the rest) I can recommend without any reservations whatsoever. Provided you like the genre of course.
