My wife and I are looking for a television series to watch. Being that television blows in general we always end up watching a movie or some reality show. A friend recommended that we check out the Office and the show Weeds. I have not seen either series and before I shell out cold hard cash for this on DVD I am looking to my DVD addiction (Hi may name is Bill and I am a DVDaholic) family for your input. Thanks

Bill

My son and parents watch "The Office" and have nothing but great things to say about it.  Good luck and yes TV shows are much better on DVD, no commericals.  Enjoy.

How about 29 episodes of Twin Peaks ??  debuted in April of 1990 ( seven episodes )then,  ABC gave green light for 22 more in the coming year over a period of two seasons ., Changed TV overnight.

Or the miniseries that changed TV forever  by running the series everynight for 8 nights ,
was Alex Haley's Roots., back in 1977..,

Noticed you didn't have either of these in your vast library of titles .

I have never been one for tv. What I watch is American Dad, Family Guy and Futurma for the intellectual shows and for non animation we have seen Sex and the City, Seinfeld, Sopranos and we just finished watching Tell me you love me on HBO which I thought was horrible. I watched roots back in the 70's or 80's when it was on and one that I remember that I thought was good was Rich man poor man and that was back in the 70's. Other than that if it is not the news, some reality show or HBO porn the cable box is off and the DVD player is on. I never seen Twin Peaks. What can you tell me about the show.

'Twin Peaks'. The creators, David Lynch and Mark Frost, thought that solving the Laura murder would ruin the thing, but the execs wanted it, management never learns, and it did. David Lynch and Mark Frost went off to other projects and you can notice the difference. They came back for the last episode.

I liked 'Weeds' as did my friends. Another series you might look at is 'Rescue Me'.

I'm not personally a fan of the Office (probably didn't give it enough time but I have lots of other things to watch!) and haven't seen Weeds yet (though I do watch a lot of TV on DVD and intend to) however, in general, I've heard nothing but good things from most people about both shows (even about the US re-make of The Office from UK watchers which is almost unheard of!) and they are, I think, the sort of humour that is likely to appeal to someone with a stated preference for reasonably 'grown up' entertainment such as you seem to be.

Personally I don't find the Office funny (UK version, not seen the US version).

However Weeds I love. Being a Showtime show it does have tons of swearing and partial nudity. First season is the best I think.

Weeds is brilliant, I got both series on ^ Andys recommendation and loved it. Just have to point out if you were watching it with kids the language can be risqué.

The US series of Office gets better and better, and by series 2 and 3 had developed the characters and storylines well beyond the UK version, to the point I have to stop waving the Union Jack and say your version is funnier.

So - get both sets of series Bill - they won't disappoint you.

It also is in Pan and Scan for Season 1 only on standard DVD... Hmmmm Is it coming out in Widescreen anytime soon? I hate buying things twice. I am also not interested in the Blu-Ray release which is widescreen for any Blu-Ray zealot that may be reading this.

We are picking up Season 1 of Weeds today. If you can please give a brief synopsis of the shows you would recommend. We are also looking for a copy of Season 1 of Twin Peaks because of widescreenforevers great link to the story line. These should keep us entertained for a minute

Thanks
Bill
