With Australia Day creeping up, I'm having an upswelling of national pride, so I decided to start a thread where people can discuss anything and everything Australian.  Anyone is welcome to join in, although it would be great to see Australians (and ex-pats) joining in.

Since this is a DVD forum, and so we've got something to start with, here's a list of Australian content (correct me if I'm wrong) I have on DVD (I may need to update from home):

Music
Regurgitator: Jingles
Silverchair: The Best of Volume 1: Complete Videology Plus Emotion Pictures
Skyhooks: Right There On My DVD
Snog: Adventures In Capitalism
TISM - The White Albun

Short films
Babakiueria (Barbeque Area)
The Mysterious Geographic Explorations of Jasper Morello

Movies
Blackfellas
Bra Boys
Crash Test
Deck Dogz
Ghosts of the Civil Dead: Collector's Edition
Neophites & Neon Lights (part of the Galactica collection)
Rabbit-Proof Fence
Reign In Darkness
Romper Stomper
Subterano
The Tracker
Undead
Walkabout: Thirtieth Anniversary Edition
Yolngu Boy
Young Einstein

Unfortunately (for me anyway) most Australian movie funding goes towards drama, and I'm more a "genre" fan myself.  If any NZers are around, I'd love to see a 100% NZ thread.

@W0mb6t
G'day
I loved Australia too bad it is sooooooo far away for us, but if you don't mind I would like to add something Australian too, and to stay in theme music, short films and movies are works of art.

What did you think of these movies (or at least the ones you've seen)?  For anyone outside of Australia who liked The Castle you're at an advantage... you don't have to listen to Michael Caton running his "Tell him he's dreaming" line into the ground in advertising.

Do any of you above posters (or anyone following this) have Australian faves / Australian content in their collections?

Do "Mad Max" and "Crocodile Dundee" count as "australian"?

I really liked Steve Irwin and his show, to bad he died.

I am not sure what the opinion on Crocodile Dundee will be , but I bet Mad max will gladly be counted as Australian...

Mad Max or The Road Warrior as it is known in the US is Australian, as is Cocodile Dundee.

A few of my favourites:

Breaker Morant
Picnic at Hanging Rock
Romper Stomper
Shine
The Adventures of Priscilla: Queen of the Desert
Mad Max (1 & 2. Not too keen on 3)
Sunday Too Far Away

A few others worth watching:

Caddie
Erskineville Kings
Soft-Fruit

I just checked my profiler, and I missed:

Bra Boys (Documentary on Maroubra gangs)
Rabbit-Proof Fence
TISM - The White Albun (Simply put, TISM are an Australian idiot band)

dee1959jay, I've got the book (as yet unread) of The Last Wave.  It looks interesting.  Is the movie good?

People, you don't have to restrict yourselves to movies either

@ w0m6at:
For what it's worth: I like it a lot.

BTW, are you familiar with the Australian Cinephilia website? They have a section on Australian films.

Here's what they say about The Last Wave:
Richard Chamberlain (best known from the US television series Dr Kildare) plays a Sydney middle-class lawyer whose dreams are premonitions of disaster, a condition which leads him to try to understand the five Aboriginals (including David Gulpilil) he is defending on a murder charge. Written by Weir and closely related thematically to Picnic At Hanging Rock (1975 ) both films articulate the white man’s unease in his stolen land. Commendable as that is I am not fond of Weir’s fondness for porteneous intimations of metaphysical forces. Technically however the film is well made and picked up AFI awards for sound and cinematography. BH

There's plenty of (rather mixed) other reviews out there, e.g.
here
here
here and
here,
so don't take my word for it.
