Seeing as though I just bought a new reciever I'd like to break it in.  Looking at my collection can anyone see anything that will give a surround setup a good run through?  Or even better, any specific scenes that stand out.

Well, since you've set your online collection to "private", looking at it is rather difficult.

But in case you own this movie, tweeter's choice is indeed excellent.

Magic baby!

Actually it didn't even occur to me to check your list.  I just tossed out the best film in my collection.

opening scenes of helicopter blades (sounds) of Apocalypse Now, across the back over your heads onto the screen..

in 5.1  it goes across the back right to left, then from back to front along the left speaker corridor, then across your screen left to right..... ............. boom  ..Napalm
In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. Now the World is weird and People take Prozac to make it Normal.

I agree.  This has to be the most chilling surround sound scene.  Also Forrest Gump Viet Nam ambush.

The shootout in Heat outside the bank is brilliant for surround sound.  It goes for around 5 minutes, with gunshots coming from every direction.

Many of the replies are also good tests for the bass as well as the surround so, assuming the reverse is also often true for a well mixed scene, try these few for some rumble!

Lord of the Rings; the whole trilogy has some worthy sound.
Fellowship: fiirst 5 minutes and skeleton fall (0:25)
Towers: Black Black Riders (0:50), anything to do with the Balrog (beginning and 0:50) and the Oliphant charge (1:40)
Return: Undead King (about 1:30), Shelob (1:50) ans more Oliphants (2:10) and Mount Doom (2:40)

Resident Evil: Car crash at start, Rocket Launcher (0:35) and 5Kt (1:15)

Star Wars: Phantom Menace: Pod Racer scene (great surround and bass... it wasn't the quality of the movie that made this the first scene I put through my receiver )

Dawn of the Dead: Opening and the explosions at 1:35-1:45

Aliens: Express Elevator to Hell (0:40) and Awakenings/We are Leaving/Drop Ship explodes (1:10-1:25)

I think you have all of these! Enjoy

Le pacte des loups / Brotherhood of the wolves
At the beginning of the movie, the scene where the "thing" chases the girl and the fight scene in the rain.

Think thats visually and sound wise probably the best movie ive seen. Really liked the "pause" thingy they used.

Great surround Use: (I am talking about the High-Def Versions but I am pretty sure that the SD Versions are good too. )

1.) Vantage Point
2.) Casino Royale
3.) Replacement killers
4.) 3:10 to yuma
5.) "Cars". (I put this one last even it's one of the best surround discs available but it's animation and that's not everyones favorite cup of tea)
