Please remember that some of us are on tape delay so try not to spoil the results. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | I always enjoy the opening ceremonies -- terrific spectacle last night. The parade of nations is always a treat as well since you can generally see the great joy the athletes all have for being there. As Unicus said -- Good luck to all the participants. As a big basketball fan I am looking forward to what many are saying will be the best tournament ever -- there are some potentially great teams in this year so it should be exciting! Brian |

| Posted: | | | | I just watched the opening ceremony. Had it recorded. All I can say is... What a spectacular show. Such incredible precision. The show was fantastic in HD. I would love a Blu version of this. I also watched some of the events today. Seems as though I have Olympic fever. Perhaps it because of all the talk about the Chinese beating us (the USA) in the toital medal count. HOGWASH! (but I do wish everyone well ... except China ) Time to watch tonight's competitions. Looks like swimming finals, gymnastics and more beach volleyball. Speaking of beach volleyball - anyone see this picture of President Bush? Watch those hands W! Found a couple of good sites to track medals and events (for those who are interested). Careful clicking - they show results. The Olympic version of a hat-trick - or maybe a triple crown. Whatever you call it they rocked |

Not only did they win the first US medals of the games, they took all three. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | Any other Bruce Campbell fans out there recognize the music they play going to commercials? My guess is it is a USA broadcast only type of thing (sorry rest of the world). |

| Posted: | | | | Sorry, but I do not approve of the Chinese hosting the Olympics. They are doing the same thing that Hitler did with the Munich Olympics in the 1930's -- making it a showcase for Chinese totalitarianism in order to build stature among the world's nations.
I do not oppose athletics, nor the Olympics, but it was obvious from the gitgo that China was pulling out the stops to wear their "good guy" face during this event. When a nation forcibly moves thousands of its own people out of their homes to build facilities, and brings in 130,000 police to keep order, and restricts cell phone and internet access within its borders to control what the people (and any visitors) can see and hear -- not to mention communicate to the outside world -- that is not where we should be hosting Olympic venues. | | | John

I agree with your view of not wanting China to host them, unfortunately it's not up to you or me and it's too late. I also don't believe they Chinese government is fooling anyone. That is fairly obvious if you listen to some of the comments from the broadcasters or the statements of some of the dignitaries present. As incredible as the opening ceremony was while we watched it we were discussing what had to happen in the background to make the show a success. Example: When they mentioned the costumes for the people with the lights all over them were black a week before the show but the producer didn't like it so he had them try something else. Three days later he approved the green outfit. Three days later again there were 2000 of them. Those sweatshops had to be running full bore round the clock to make that happen. So, While I am personally against the games being held in China as I said earlier there is nothing we can do about it now. I'm sure that is one of the big reasons I want to see the USA beat them in the medal count |
