| Posted: | | | | January: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button ****1/2 / ***** While the comparisons to Forrest Gump might seem obvious, this movie was fabulous. Cate Blanchett was outstanding and dare I say beautifuly stunning. Yes Man *** / ***** Jim Carey is great in this movie and I am quickly becoming a huge Zoe Deschanel fan (outside of the flop that was The Happening). The laughs were consistant for a Carey flick and I enjoyed all the sub characters, even though the movie was a bit obvious in its conclusion!!! Paul Blart: Mall Cop **1/2 / ***** I gave this film a shot after we missed the start time for Gran Torino and while I always enjoy Kevin James, this movie was pretty awful with a few laughs sprinkled in!!! February: He's Just Not That Into You *** / ***** Cute movie, much a chick flick but I enjoyed it for what it was!!! March: Race to Witch Mountain **1/2 / ***** I wanted to see Taken, we saw this instead... I Love You Man *** / ***** Typical formulaic guy comedy. I've always enjoyed Paul Rudd's geekyness and he plays it to perfection in this film!!! Knowing *** / ***** There has been a recent decline in the films that Nicolas Cage has signed onto lately, but this one isn't too bad, despite an almost scientology like storyline!!! Monsters Vs. Aliens **** / ***** While the 3-D was simply "just OK", the movie was good, I really enjoyed the comedy, especially Seth Grogan's BOB monster...saw this twice too!!! April: May: Ghosts of Girlfriends Past ***1/2 / ***** Never really understood the love affair with Jennifer Garner, however McConnaughy is great and him and Michael Douglas save this film from being just another boring chick flick!!! Xmen Origins: Wolverine *** / ***** I like Hugh Grant as Wolverine, even though he is way too tall, but in this movie focusing on Wolverine's origins, there are far to many liberties taken with other Marvel characters, especially Deadpool who is absolutely frankensteined in this film. Is that even a word??? Star Trek ****1/2 / ***** I can't say enough about this film, as close to perfect as you can get, and for the record I am not a Trekkie by any means. I am however a huge JJ Abrams fan and he hit this one out of the park easily!!! Brilliant film. | | | My Collection!!! | | | Last edited: by Calidain |

| Posted: | | | | Januari 03/01 Yes Man - Good, entertaining and fun 24/01 Burn After Reading - Although it had it's fun moments, overall I found this movie to be somewhat average. 30/01 Valkyrie - It started out a little slow, but once the plan gets in motion, this turned out to be a very interesting movie.
Februari 14/02 Friday the 13th - A rather succesful remake in the slasher genre. It had the necessary bodycount/gore, and the obligatory nude. The only downside was, you didn't care for most of the characters, in fact I was glad some of them were offed. This wasn't just a remake of part 1, but rather the whole series. If memory served me correctly, I noticed elements from part 1, 2, 3, 6 and 7. 21/02 Bride Wars - A very mediocre chick flick. It all starts of way too slow, and by the time the movie picks up, I just didn't care anymore.
March 07/03 Defiance - A very interesting Word War II story about Russian jews surviving in the woods. Strong performances by Daniel Craig and Liev Schreiber. 20/03 Confessions of a Shopaholic - This is a complete no-brainer, but if you like chick flicks, you won't be bored. It has all the obligatory cliches and its quite funny. 28/03 SM-rechter - True story about a judge who is drawn into the SM-scene by his wife. Finally, all is revealed. The judge gets endighted and convicted, and in the process loses his job, his house and his civil rights.
April 04/04 Knowing - A story about a prophecy with numbers starring Nicolas Cage. It wasn't bad, but the first have of the movie suffered from some crappy CGI.
27th Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival 10/04 Mutant Chronicles - Sci-Fi horror set in 2707 where the Earth needs to be saved from Mutants. It was announced as extremely gory. In fact, it was boring as hell, all action scenes were shot as a sloppy chaos. 10/04 Dying Breed - Australian survival movie about some cannibalistic mutants, set in Tasmania. This was a rather ok movie. It started out a little slow, but a raw and mean movie. 11/04 Humains - French Horror movie about an antropological expedition that discovers Neanderthalers are still alive in the Swiss moutains. This was not that bad, although the story had a lot more potential. 12/04 Wasting Away - A Zombie comedy where the story is told from the viewpoint of the zombies, which seems an original setting. Sadly the title describes what is happening to the viewer of this movie. 13/04 Grace - Story about a woman whose unborn baby dies in the womb during a car accident. She decides to have the baby anyway, and the baby comes to life shortly after birth. Mind numbingly dull. 14/04 Outlander - Alien monster arrives on Earth during the time of the Vikings. Liked this one. 14/04 Red - An older man's dog gets brutaly shot by some teens. He goes looking for apologies. Very good, brilliant acting by Brian Cox. 15/04 Star Trek - Excellent new start of the franchise. Every member of the Enterprise is well cast. Good story, in short, obligatory for every Trekkie! 16/04 Walled In - A female demolitions expert has to prepare a building for demolition. Years earlier, 16 bodies were found cemented in. Rather boring. 16/04 One-Eyed Monster - An adult filmcrew goes up in the mountains to shoot a film. Ron Jeremy gets struck by a shooting star. His willy gets possessed by an alien, detaches itself, and seeks out to proceate the species. Not half bad, but this would have been better in the hands of Lloyd Kaufman, who knows how to go completely overboard (see Poultrygeist). 17/04 The Last House On the Left (remake) - A good remake of Wes Craven's 1972 sleazy horror flick, about a bunch of criminals who rape a girl, then end up in the house of the girl's parents. It might have been better clocking off on 90 minutes, but the film had the necessary suspense and a good cast. 17/04 Mum and Dad - British horror film about a family who kidnaps and tortures people, while raising their victims as their own children. Boring. 20/04 Låt den rätte komma in - Swedish movie about a boy who befriends the girl next door which turns out to be a vampire. It was a bit of an arthouse movie, which is not my cup of tea. 20/04 Passengers - A grief counselor has to work with a group of plane crash survivors. One by one, they start to disappear. Mediocre, and about 2/3rd in the movie it remind me a lot to another movie, which I shall not name to not spoil the plot. 20/04 Trailer Park of Terror - A girl living in a trailer park sees her boyfriend killed by the local weirdos, and makes a pact with the devil to take vengeance. After this good prologue, it all goes downhill rapidly.
May 01/05 Fast & Furious - The formula still works, great cars, good looking women and fast paced action. They could have made better use of Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster though. 03/05 My Bloody Valentine (3D version) - An entertaining slasher film. It has some good 3D effects and a nice body count. The ending had a bit too much clichés, but I quite enjoyed it anyway. 08/05 He's Just Not That Into You - A refreshing take on the romantic comedy. Not a no-brainer, partly due to the many characters in the story, but very enjoyable. 15/05 X-Men Origines: Wolverine - Prequel to the X-Men series. It took some effort getting through the first part, but the 2nd half was better. The Star Trek series did get a much better prequel though. 23/05 Angels & Demons - Although I liked The Da Vinci Code, I find this a better movie. It still has all the religious intrigue, but the action is much faster paced.
June 12/06 Terminator Salvation - I have some mixed feelings about this one. It's not a bad movie, but it didn't feel like I was watching a Terminator movie. Somehow, I feel this had a lot more potential. 19/06 The Proposal - Sandra Bullock in order to keep her VISA, forces her secretary Ryan Reynolds to go along with a fake marriage, and avoid deportation. There was a good chemistry between both leads, a very entertaining movie. 27/06 The Hangover - 4 guys go to Vegas. They lose their buddy who is to marry in 2 days. Not a lot of laughs in this one.
July 02/07 Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen - I was rather disappointed with this one. It had way too many childish humor, and the new sidekick was an annoying guy. The sad part is, I saw it coming only 5 minutes in the movie, only a 145 left. The last hour the movie became better, but sadly it was already too late. 20/07 Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - The Potter saga is looking grimmier with every movie. I still like it but I do miss the colorfullness and the magic of the first. 24/07 Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs - It had a fun finale, but I was so bored out of my mind getting there. 31/07 The Taking of Pelham 123 - A good remake of the '74 movie. John Travolta is very convincing as the bad guy. Some of the faster paced scenes were stylistically shot in slow motion/low definition which in this day and age of HD seems to me a bad/annoying choice
August 10/08 G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra - Action packed, fast paced, CGI was too obvious in a couple of scenes, but all in all an entertaining movie.
September 11/09 Inglourious Basterds - This could have been a good movie. It had a good idea, it had some nice explicit gory scenes, but all the dialogues at times going on for 10 minutes made it boring at times. This 150 minute vehicle should have been trimmed an hour. A missed opportunity. 19/09 The Final Destination - The Belgian distributor decided we can only get the 2D version. But it was still an improvement over the third one. There were some CGI shots that were not really convincing, but on the other hand, it had some great make-up effects. And with a running time of 80 minutes, it never got boring.
October 02/10 The Ugly Truth - A romantic comedy with a bit of a rough edge. Very funny and entertaining. And as a bonus, Katherine Heigl is real eye-candy. 10/10 District 9 - An alien spaceship arrives on earth. All the aliens are temporary put in a holding camp in South Africa. After many years, the aliens are to be relocated, but as with all ghetto's there is a lot of crime in the camp. The commander of the team passing out the eviction notices gets infected with an alien substance... It reminded me a bit of Alien Nation, but the alien invasion did get an original treatment in this one. 30/10 Surrogates - People no longer live their lives, but experience it throug surrogates, a type of robots which they operate from their homes. Now a weapon has appeared to destroy surrogates, and in the process also kill the human connected to it. Fairly decent action/science fiction movie.
November 1/11 Jennifer's Body - Horror in Beverly Hills 90210 style. Georgeous girls becomes flesh-craving zombie going on a killing spree in high school. Almost a good movie, better suited for home theater environment than cinema. 15/11 2012 - Big budget disaster movie, containing all the ingredients of the old '70 disaster movies. Some of the scenes, however, are so over the top, to the point where it starts to look fake and too unrealistic. 20/11 New Moon - Next installment in the Twilight Saga. I had some difficulties getting through the first one, but I'm starting to get interested. Although I think the movies are better fit for home viewing.
December 5/12 The Rebound - Another romantic comedy. Catherine Zeta-Jones catches her husband cheating, divorces him and moves to an appartment. There she develops feelings for the much younger babysitter she hires. Not the best in it's genre, but there was definitely chemistry between the two leads. 26/12 Dossier K. - Police are investigating a ritual killing in the Albanian crime scene. Meanwhile, there is rivalry between several departments concerning the case. Not half bad. 27/12 Avatar: 3D - A paraplegic marine is dispatched to the moon Pandora on mission to harvest minerals. When he gets to know an indigenous tribe, he feels different about the mission. This movie is a visual treat, the 3-D looks stunning. The first hour starts a little slow, and I feel the movie could have been a little shorter. | | | View my collection at http://www.chriskepolis.be/home/dvd.htm

When I get this on BD hopefully, I will be adjusting my speaker system to try and reproduce some of the awesome surround sound. 1-30 Slumdog Millionaire - definitely need to go 7.1 sound for this one. | | | Thanks for your support.
