| Posted: | | | | Steve Ballmer announced today that the Beta of Windows 7 has gone public. It will be on the servers on 01/09. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

| Posted: | | | | Used to be betatester for MS, but since long I'm no longer in the test group, it seems. I hope that they really can make a good OS now. | | | Unfortunately, I can't use DVDprofiler at the moment due to lack of a Windows computer. |

cvermeylen has already installed it without issues so far - click! He obviously installed a Pre-Beta. Let's see if major changes come up. And never install betas on productive systems, not even in a separate partition of the HDD. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! | Posted: | | | | Actually, it's not the pre-beta I installed. It was the leaked version of build 7000. I obtained my product key through the MSDN program today, and my copy is now activated. Yesterday evening, I contributed the R2 UK release of Bridge at Remagen without any issues. Downloading the daily updates at work through the company firewall still works as before. So far no problems to report | | | View my collection at http://www.chriskepolis.be/home/dvd.htm

| Posted: | | | | Whoa, i knew they were doing a new os, but had no idea it was this quick. Anybody care to shed some light on this? From what ive read, its intended to be an "upgrade" (fully backward compatible), but from what XP or Vista?
...and is this supposed to be better then Vista, or an upgraded XP? |

Even though it's not hard to be better than Vista, the only thing that was worse was Windows ME (anyone remembers that?). It's supposed to be a complete new version which finally delivers the features that were promised for Vista. Final release is announced for the first quarter of 2010 (US / English). Thanks Bill, Vista is dead. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

| Posted: | | | | According to The Register it's Vista at it's core with some decent improvements. Quote:
Drivers designed for Windows Vista seem to work fine, though this may not be true in every case, confirming Microsoft's statement that the core architecture is the same. | | | IVS Registered: January 2, 2002 |

Like they're getting rid of the annoying alerts they introduced in Vista? Maybe I was right to stick with XP | | | -- Enry |

Thanks Bill, Vista is dead. Sadly I remember ME an the endless GPFs (General Protection Faults). I downgraded (upgraded) to Windows 98 SE. Vista is ok with the right hardware. In particular, it needs a lot of RAM. Windows 7 is actually going to be a substantial upgrade for corporates, most of whom are still on Windows XP. |

Yes Quote:
Maybe I was right to stick with XP Vista came installed on my current machine and I can honestly say I've not had any problems with it in the 16 months I've had it. Mind you the only 'upgrades' that have made any difference to me are the ability to search the start menu and the fact most current games create an icon in the games folder. Both because I'm too lazy to actually file things properly myself. Oh and DX10 is nice, but by no means really essential. | | | IVS Registered: January 2, 2002 |
