I din't know the director, so I try to keep blank about it. | | | Unfortunately, I can't use DVDprofiler at the moment due to lack of a Windows computer. |

Dear, oh dear... I've got a bad feeling about this... That does sound like bad news - especially when you read that Alex Proyas could have been doing it instead. |

| Posted: | | | | Bad news indeed. I like a few of Emmerich's movies; The Day After Tomorrow, Independence Day, Stargate, Universal Soldier, Moon 44. Sure they're not amazing films but they are entertaining popcorn fodder. But for Glod's sake don't give him Foundation! Foundation should not be made into one of THOSE films... |

Rory Or Michael Bay of course Just had a look at Uwe Boll's imdb filmography and I don't think I've seen even one of his films, but then I'm not really a massive horror fan. | | | Last edited: by MarEll |

| Posted: | | | | Unfortunately, I doubt anybody would do this justice... especially for any purists who have actually read the books.
I love the books, and almost all of the Sci-Fi that Asimov wrote, but they just don't see like great books for today's standard of movie. Not enough action or suspense, and too much character development and back plot. Today's movie watchers would not accept a true interpretation of these works.
I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best. |

I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best. Have to agree with gilligan on this one. The Foundation Trilogy is one of the greatest pieces of science fiction ever written. It ranks right up there with Lord of the Rings, Dune, etc. In spite of that, I think it would be an extremely difficult movie to make. There is simply too much detail to fit into a screenplay, and without the detail to create the back story for the characters, it would be boring as hell for the Asimov fans, and incomprehensible to everybody else. | | | John

| Posted: | | | | Sad to say, but Asimov has already been ruined in film - witness 'I Robot'. We have to bear in mind, however, that it was always said (and I was one that always said) that 'Lord of the Rings' couldn't be filmed. Well Peter Jackson's trilogy wasn't such a bad attempt; I think he did justice to an almost impossible task. And I know a lot of people didn't like David Lynch's 'Dune' but - having read the book two or three times I don't believe he did such a bad job, and neither did the subsequent television serialisation. I agree with previous forum members that from what I remember of 'Foundation' (I read it in the 60's) it is too complex a work to film in its totality. More likely a few incidents will be stuck together. I don't know the director referred to, but it would take someone of great skill to find the right 'tone' for such a film. Far too many fans out there to upset! Good quality science fiction is rarely treated with respect by film-makers. The only ones I consider worthy of their author is 'Blade 'Runner' (Ridley Scott) from Phillip K Dick's novel, and an excerpt from Van Voght's "Voyage of the Space Beagle" which appears to have inspired 'Alien' (also Ridley Scott). Purely a personal opinion however. |

I'm more worried about the director, who's notorious for making brainless plot-holed popcorn movies. What he wants with these intelligent & complex stories I don't know. | | | Marco

| Posted: | | | | That's definitely not in question, Bay does give good action. But thats about it. The first hour or so of Transformers was awesome, the action was stunning and plenty of humour to boot. I felt the second half was a bit of a let down though, tried to be more serious but didn't quite pull it off. My opinion of it may be skewed though as I was rather tired towards the end of watching it last.
Out of interest, what has he done in Star Trek? A quick google search turned up nothing. | | | Last edited: by MarEll |

| Posted: | | | | He's directing the upcoming Star Trek movie if my memory serves. However, if I hear Kirk yell "no no no no no" when something starts to go wrong, my opinion of him will lower significantly. | | | Last edited: by Dr. Killpatient |

That would be J.J. Abrams. Thank goodness. I was reading the thread and starting to get nervous. | | | Bad movie? You're soaking in it! |
