| Posted: | | | | I am so sick and tired of music collectors thinking they are better than movie collectors. They say that CDs have better reply value; no they don't a song only lasts a short amount of time. Most CDs only have afew good songs on it. There is far less collectablity, there are not CD steelbooks or cool gift sets. As far as I know they have no equivlent to the Criterion Collection. |

Yet, they have no problem listening to the same song hundreds of times. Radio stations frequently play popular songs several times every day! Also odd is that these same people will plop right down and watch a movie they've seen before when it's on TV, complete with commercials, cropped aspect, cut scenes, and clipped dialog. | | | Invelos Software, Inc. However there are music releases which I would consider to be the music equivalent of the Criterion Collection. These however do not tend to distinguish themselves by their packaging or extras, but by their audiophile nature (I'm thinking of SACD, DVD-Audio, BD-Audio, HDCD etc.). There are some music publishers specialising in audiophile releases, e.g. AIX Records. In a way, the music equivalent of the Criterion Collection could be compared to the once-popular Superbit movie releases. BTW, the Criterion Collection is not the first publisher I would think of when it comes to "steelbooks or cool gift sets" either. |

| Posted: | | | | It just seems that a lot of times people have the attitude that collecting books or music is better than movies. For instance this guy at the store told me that I spend too much money on movies and when he is done withhis he trades them in, yet he keeps all of his CD's. With books people tend to say the book is better than the movie or it is intellectually superior. A lot more go's into making a movie than a book or song. If a movie is based on the book than the origional author is involved and a song featured on a movie makeds the artiest part of the movie as well. Not to mention everyone else in the movie. I have no problem with books and music; I own a bunch of them, but I do not collect them. I just don't like the attitude that they are better than use. |

I am doomed with the fact that I like DVD's, and I also like music hence CD's. I can tell you, it's a real budget killer I do think you are way of in the collectablilty fact of CD's. They don't have steelbooks to my knowledge, but they do have a lot of cool digipacs. If you collect filmsoundtracks, this is real hell. Lately a lot of CD's are released with totals of 1000-5000 copies. The rate they are selling, is you have about blink to decide to buy it. A lot of those titles sell out in hours or days. If you miss it, you can buy it at specialised shops or ebay, early on for double retail price, if you wait a few months, it's four or five times retail price. So, there's your collectability factor And, I would say, this is a damn cool release: | | | View my collection at http://www.chriskepolis.be/home/dvd.htm

| Posted: | | | | Meh, I find that people who buy a lot of movies tend to buy a lot of books and music and vice versa that coincides with their taste. Personally I rarely buy music as I only listen to it in the car and the radio is fine for me but I buy a lot of books. What you're missing is that books, music and movies are a lot closer linked than you think and results in most people buying a mix of all three in genres that interest them Example being, soundtrack CD + movie book + movie or non-fiction book + audiobook + documentary. I'm not bothered what other people collect, and I think you'll find just as many people who are like this no matter where you go or what you collect. Hell, you see it everyday between movie fans for those who like arty stuff and those who like mainstream. I buy a lot of both and some don't think it's plausible to enjoy both. Never listen to others, if YOU get enjoyment out of YOUR collection, that is all that counts. Just tell anyone who's being an arse to worry about their own lives. Hell some people spend more on smoking than we do on discs. Which is the bigger waste of money? I just feel for those who smoke AND collect movies |

| Posted: | | | | I don't "collect" music the same way I do movies. I don't even keep a record of them anymore. I used to have an Excel list of all my albums but I gave that up years ago. Recently I decided to stop adding to my CD collection. Itunes, Spotify etc. have taken over my listening habits. I never pull out a CD anymore so I've ripped them all to my network storage drive (which also runs the Itunes server), boxed them and put them away in storage. I still keep a few SACDs at hand though since they add to the listening experience with multi-channel sound. That said, there certainly are collector's editions and fan editions of CDs. I have for example a Tori Amos collection in a piano style box. And there are loads more. Not to mention all those limited vinyl pressings, strictly collector's items. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 |

| Posted: | | | | I collect both. While I do own thousands of movies on different formats, I also own 1500+ CD's...which includes a bunch of movie soundtracks.
As for replay value, it really depends. Some CD's I have in the changer playing almost constantly. Other CD's, I probably haven't played in years. | | | Corey |
