My picks would be:
17. Black Hawk Down
88. Full Metal Jacket
119. Jarhead
116. Invasion of the Bee Girls

Haven't seen that last one but it sounds awesome!

Battleship Potempkin! Then Full Metal Jacket... Eisenstein is so much of an influence on directors and movies in general, as an aficionado, you just can't lose!

You have Full Metal Jacket on your "unwatched" list???

My picks:
1st make a nice "War Day"
Starting with "Full Metal Jacket" then "Jarhead" and as final "Black Hawk Down"
This should suffice for a good night's sleep

Immortal
Watchmen
Chocolat
can be watched in no particular order
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Title: Full Metal Jacket: Stanley Kubrick Collection
Year: 1987
Director: Stanley Kubrick
Rating: R
Length: 116 Min.
Video: Pan & Scan 1.33:1
Audio: English: Dolby Digital: Mono, French: Dolby Digital: Mono
Subtitles: English, French

Stars:
Matthew Modine
Adam Baldwin
Vincent D'Onofrio
R. Lee Ermey [Lee Ermey]
Dorian Harewood
Kevyn Major Howard

Plot:
A superb ensemble cast falls in for action in Stanley Kubrick's brilliant saga about the Vietnam War and the dehumanizing process that turns people into trained killers. Joker (Matthew modine), Animal Mother (Adam Baldwin), Gomer (Vincent D'Onofrio), Eightball (Dorian Harewood), Cowboy (Arliss Howard) and more - all are plunged into a boot-camp hell pitbulled by a leatherlung D.I. (Lee Ermey) who views the would-be devil dogs as grunts, maggots or something less.

The action is savage, the story unsparing, the dialogue spiked with scathing humor. 'Full Metal Jacket', from its rigors of basic training to its nightmare of combat in Hue City, scores a cinematic direct hit.

Extras:
Scene Access
Feature Trailers
Closed Captioned

My Thoughts:
Between the 2 sites this movie got more requests then any other movie. I was originally thinking I would save my war movies for the 4th of July weekend... and do a War Movie Marathon then... but with so many requests for this one I decided not to wait. This is a movie that I got from my mother's collection after she passed away. I am sure it was not a problem for her (especially with her eyes)... but first thing I notice about this movie is that it is in Pan & Scan. So my initial start-out is of disappointment.... this movie came out in '87... surely this isn't it's OAR!?! Then the next thing I knew I was starting to get into the movie. In no time at all I was hooked and glued to my seat. This is really is a great war movie. Granted this is coming from someone that seldomly ever watches war movies. But I know I enjoyed every second of it.

I really liked how this movie started with the new recruits in basic training. Then followed them from there. And the scenes during basic training was surprisingly good. Especially the storyline around the character they called Gomer Pyle. Once they got out of basic training I felt the movie went town just a hair. But still remained an awesome movie. This is one I definitely would recommend... even if you are like me and war movies is not generally your thing. Give it a chance... I am sure you wouldn't be sorry!

If I had to pick anything to complain about here it is not the movie... but this DVD release. As I already said... the whole Pan & Scan thing is disappointing. Then there is no worth-while extras. I mean I am glad we got the trailer for this movie on the disc. But there could have been... and should have been much more.

Title: The X-Files: I Want To Believe
Year: 2008
Director: Chris Carter
Rating: PG-13
Length: 108 Min.
Video: Anamorphic Widescreen 2.40:1
Audio: English: Dolby Digital: 5.1, Spanish: Dolby Digital: Dolby Surround, French: Dolby Digital: Dolby Surround
Subtitles: English, Spanish

Stars:
David Duchovny
Gillian Anderson
Amanda Peet
Billy Connolly
Alvin 'Xzibit' Joiner
Mitch Pileggi

Plot:
David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson re-team to unravel a bizarre case right out of The X-Files™. In the blink of an eye, amidst a bone-chilling cold and an eerily deceptive calm, FBI agent Monica Bannan is mysteriously abducted. But this is not ordinary kidnapping. And not only does the search for the missing woman ignite sparks between partners Scully (Anderson) and Mulder (Duchovny), it defies the boundaries of science, the supernatural and the terrifying spaces in between!

Extras:
Scene Access
Audio Commentary
Feature Trailers
Bonus Trailers
Deleted Scenes
Featurettes
Gallery
Outtakes/Bloopers
Closed Captioned

My Thoughts:
I have seen in other reviews that this movie is not that much liked compared to the series and first movie. I personally enjoyed it. No... this one doesn't have anything to do with the mythology of the X-Files... but that is something I liked about it. I have always been a bigger fan of the stand alone "freak of the week" episodes. And that is what this movie feels like to me. Sure it could have been better. But I really don't have any complaints. This is the first time I have seen Billy Connolly in many years. The last thing I remember seeing him in was Head of the Class when he took over for Howard Hesseman as the teacher. And wow... did he change. But I would guess so... after all we are talking a good 20 years here. Even though he didn't look familiar at all I knew exactly who he was just from his voice. After the movie I checked out the gag reel. As that is normally my favorite extra on movies.  Well unfortunately not this time. I didn't even make it all the way through the entire gag reel.  It just didn't give me any laughs. The majority of the beginning was nothing more then the actors slipping in the snow. oh well... at least I enjoyed the movie.

Title: Gone With the Wind
Year: 1939

Audio: English: Dolby Digital: 5.1, English: Dolby Digital: Mono

Plot:
Cinematic masterpiece. Hollywood legend. National treasure. Gone With the Wind is all this and more. Forever linked by passion and separated by pride and self-delusion, these unforgettable screen lovers bring Mitchell's immortal saga vividly to life, set against the stunning backdrop of a time and place forever Gone With the Wind.

Extras:
Scene Access

Booklet includes: Trivia/Production Notes/Making of the film

My Thoughts:
OK... don't get me wrong with this review. I respect the accomplishments of this film. I mean we are talking of a film that won 9 Academy Awards here. But this is just not my thing. It just really bored me. This movie was given to me from a friend. I still very much appreciate him sending me this movie. but as I said... it is just not my type of thing. When I first put the movie in I was afraid I would never get through the entire thing to give it a proper chance for my review. But I was able to get into the movie just slightly. But that was enough to make it till the end. Though it is one I started last night and had to take a break half way through it... and watch the second half this morning. But I did make it! So I am proud of myself for that much. Sure this is an important part of the history of film... but it is not one that I am planning on watching again.

I'll echo the recommendation for Battleship Potemkin and toss in one for The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.

And then, like MarEll, I'll wonder about Invasion of the Bee Girls.  I have that one as well - also unwatched.
