| Posted: | | | | Highly Recommended. Here's something I wrote about it a couple of years ago: Quote: That the other humans on Earth do not exist merely to massage his ego, satisfy his desires and act as targets for his wisecracks comes as news to weatherman Phil Connors. Typical of the disdain in which he holds us is the way he counts down to 1 on his fingers the first time through the Groundhog Day taping, ending with middle finger raised, flipping off the world through the camera lens.
After coming to terms with the prospect of a seemingly infinite repetition of one day, Phil strives to gratify every desire, every whim, however perverse and harmful, knowing that there will be no repercussions beyond 5:59 am. This only goes so far towards satifaction.
He turns to wooing Rita. After however many months or years of trying to make himself appear perfect to her, detail by detail, only to fail, ending up with countless slaps in the face, Phil becomes desperately, suicidally depressed. But however many times he does away with himself, 6:00 am finds him back at the Bed and Breakfast to start the day again.
Confiding in Rita, she shares that maybe this is not a curse, but a gift. Phil decides to become a better person by helping out everyone he can and in the process discovers that being loving makes him attractive to Rita. He learns the difference between "love" the feeling, and "love" as a lifestyle. Phil Connors is the anti-George Bailey: George went through his time warp to find out his own value, Phil went through his to find the value of other people.
This is a very funny movie. It's as poignant as you want it to be, and quite a nice little love story. |

| Posted: | | | | "Phil?!" "Ned?!" * whack!* Just like his own dealings within the film, watching this movie too many times would drive me crazy. However, once a year it can be very entertaining. I highly recommend it if you enjoy classic Bill Murray comedy. Quoting samuelrichardscott: Quote: No idea why the poll options are out of order and I can't seem to edit them... sorry! Sorry, I meant a disastrous start to movie discussion topics as I appeared to be the only one to have seen Boiler Room which was thread MD#1. This film I do find overrated. It's definately above average but IMO I don't undertsand the all out praise it gets from people. Don't get me wrong, like the cast, like the idea, like the story but it just isn't as funny as some would lead you to believe. |

| Posted: | | | | My wife and I watch this film at least 3 or 4 times a year, probably more. I now own the Blu-ray disc. If you want to tear your hair out, try counting the number of times he relives the day. I tried 3 times and can't do it. | | | Marty - Registered July 10, 2004, User since 2002. |
