| Posted: | | | | Buffalo gets hit with that much snow quite frequently. But, because we are used to dealing with it, the streets are clear in a day or so. This year so far we've had nothing but lots of rain - I have a mud pond in the back yard. Since Lake Erie hasn't frozen yet, we have perfect conditions for another Blizzard! |

Since Lake Erie hasn't frozen yet, we have perfect conditions for another Blizzard! Exactly you guys are prepared for this weather. But us not to try and get political. We had the same nonsense last year. The Scottish government tried to talk to the UK government to get extra grit for the councils. Cause they have constitutional control over that area. The UK government just rested on it's laurels and put Scotland to the back of there mine as usual. We where hit with major snow from December to February. Which resulted in millions of pounds worth of damage to Scottish roads. We did mange though to fix them up again in a short time though. But now it's the same this year so the councils are only gritting A roads and leaving the housing estates in the hands of the residences to deal with. With what ever they have to hand to dig them self out. We feel really equal up here. |

| Posted: | | | | I think I put the whammy on us...it's snowing!
We have the same thing you do - the major streets are the cities priority.
Often the secondary and side streets just can not be gotten to and the community takes over. This is one of the things I love most about Buffalo.
Volunteers with 4x4 vehicles pick up people to take them to work. Radio stations keep everyone updated on who to call.
If your vehicle gets stuck in the snow - there are many who help to get you out. It's not unusual to see people walking the streets with shovels to assist those in need.
People with plows pitch in and help clear the streets. And, almost every able bodied person comes out and starts shoveling.
The small town atmosphere makes the work almost fun. And, of course, we always have hot cocoa when we're done. |

It's one of the more endearing parts of US culture that provides for a more down to earth way of life than the over the top busyness of the city's. Which form my experiencing are populated by lot of drama queens and A holes. Certainly feel more like your in the real America when you visit small towns. We do have the camaraderie thing here with helping ppl. But the problem is we are just not use to this so i think ppl are rather confused as what to do exactly. | | | Last edited: by ShinyDiscGuy |

| Posted: | | | | Trivia: The LiveJournal folks in Seattle coined the term "Snowmageddon" and "Snowpocalypse".
My tip: Get a good set of chains (not made from cables) that fit snugly to your tire and keep them in your car with a good set of warm gloves. Be sure to put the chains on before the snow hits so you can become familiar with the process in good conditions.
Another tip that I learned after the last snow fall: Some chains need to come off a certain way. For example, my chains lay around the tire and then I lift them up and around the top and hook the clasp. If the tire isn't oriented the same way, it won't come off cleanly. |

| Posted: | | | | The blizzard is happening. One of the major thruways is closed. Hundreds of motorists have been stranded for more than 12 hours. The snow is not going to let up until tomorrow and it is unknown when these cars will be able to move.
I was supposed to spend the night at a friend's house to dog sit her 2 labs. A 10 minute drive took close to an hour.
There were vehicles stuck at every intersection. Even trucks with snow plows were getting stuck and being winched out.
Zero visibility in areas - what fun! I finally made it to her house but I couldn't pull in her driveway so I ended up parking on the street. The snow was waist high as I waded to her front door.
I couldn't leave my car on the street - there is no parking in the winter - so I decided I would take a different route home.
I packed a case of water, Chex Mix, trail bars and emergency supplies and headed out. It took me only 2 hours to get home. Cars were backed up for miles on the other side of the road.
But, when I got back into the city there is only about 6 inches piled up. It is unbelievable how bad it is out there just a few miles from my house.
My eldest niece lives right around the corner from my friend's house so I asked her to feed the dogs and let them out.
She called me and said the snow in the driveway is now neck high. It is still coming down and the storm front is now moving. Areas that haven't been hit are going to be sometime today. | | | Last edited: by Kathy |

I saw that on the news yesterday morning that Buffalo is going to get it. Here in the capital region we had rain and high winds. It would have been a massive blizzard if it would have been colder but it was in the 50ties. Today it's sunny and around 35. I guess we dodged the bullet but I know we will get it sooner or later like every year. Stay warm Kathy! Very nice pics FilmAlba. |

Nice (and impressive) pics there, FilmAlba. I think now would be a good time to watch a movie like 'Frozen' | | | Blu-ray collection DVD collection My Games My Trophies |

I study photography though i wasn't putting much effort into them lol. The one of the park though shows some compensation with the curvature of the snow which is nice touch i guess. I heard good things bout Frozen. Defo going to check it out. | | | Last edited: by ShinyDiscGuy |
