I agree. It's not the type of movie that the cover makes you think it is.

Hi,

I haven't seen the movie for awhile but the cover didn't seem mis-leading to me.  In fact, from my recollection it seemed to characterize the Robert DeNiro character rather well. (Travis Bickel? - I know I could look it up but where's the fun in that?
Again without looking it up, my recollection is that much of the advertising  played up the Jodie Foster character which was a relatively small part of the movie.  That seemed to be a bigger mis-representation of the film.  And salacious.
Please explain.

Misleading how exactly? It is a still from the film, nothing more, nothing less. Are you saying that is not deNiro on the cover, or that his character does not look like that? There isn't even a catch phrase to confuse anyone. And was it really necessary to use such a large image? Surely one quarter the size would have served as well.

How so?  Is it not really "A Martin Scorsese Film"?

If anything, that cover is a spoiler. He only goes mohawk in the last act, so anyone thinking "hey De Niro as a punk rocker" will be disappointed. Most will wait to see him like on cover, so if they haven't seen the film, it's a huge spoiler IMO.

It leads you to think he is more an openly psychotic character going on a killing spree. Where as the film is more a slow burning drama/psychological thriller.

Seems as if they are aiming at a lower common denominator to try and yes get more sales.

But i really think that states how dumb they think there customers are.

I prefer this cover. More true to what the film is about.

Not having seen this movie, the cover in the OP doesn't imply an "openly psychotic" killer to me, but merely a man with very poor taste.

Maybe it's just me but, a guy with a mohawk, wearing sunglasses and a jacket, doesn't scream 'openly psychotic killer' so I don't see your point here.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.

FilmAlba,

Okay, I see what you're saying.
Here's the image that came to mind:

Now when you say "they are aiming at a lower common denominator" are you talking to me?

Well if we are talking about senseless gore, sex, violence and anything that isn't driven by an intelligent plot then yes. But here's where it get's more profound. If your a person that buys that stuff purely on the bases of what it is, then yes it's lowest common denominator.

And sometimes we are all guilty of it cause we just want to switch off every now and then accepted. But then there's others who are perfectly intelligent independently minded ppl who find quality's in it above what it presents on the surface, and dedicate a lot of there free time to it.

Im not one of those people who see's those quality's but maybe you are. And if you are that's fine by me.
