I thought Amazon didn't charge anything until they actually ship the item so how can you get refunds for pre-orders?

Amazon offers the Pre-order Price Guarantee and Pre-order Price Protection.

If the Amazon.com price decreases between the time you place your order and the end of the day of the release date, you'll receive the lowest price.

This doesn't mean they refunded me any money...just what I saved due to a price change between the pre-order date and the release date.

Then there's Pre-order Price Protection. That's when Amazon screws up and charges you the higher pre-order price at shipping instead of the lower price. In this case they will refund you the difference.

If your order enters the shipping process before the release date and the price is lowered on the release date, we will automatically refund your credit card for the difference between the price you were charged and the release-date price within 48 hours of the release date.

If I  budget $24.95 for a movie and it's subtracted from my account and than 4 days later I receive an e-mail informing me that the Price is $22.95 and put $2.00 back into my account I look at it as some form of refund, so stand me up and put me in front of a firing squad for using the wrong word or phrase.
