I had pre-ordered a title from them, back in July, and entered it into my check book.  As I was reconciling my transactions today, I had a charge that didn't match an entry, and an entry that didn't match a charge I knew should have gone through...the Amazon one.  After a bit of looking, I realized that the charge and entry were the same but Amazon had reduced the price, by more than $40, and that was the amount charged.  It's always nice to find and extra $40, so Kudos to Amazon for their low price guarantee...especially now that the current price is almost double what I paid.

Same thing for me.
I have ordered the integral of Battlestar Galactica in Blu-ray in Augustus and it wasn't available and I received it just before the reedition of the box set that was sold 35€ less than the box set I ordered. I send them a mail and they refund me the 35€. I'm always satisfied of Amazon. I order to Amazon from years and never had issue. I have already some problem with post (never receive my order) several times and they always send me back a new one.
Regards
Cyrille

I thought Amazon didn't charge anything until they actually ship the item so how can you get refunds for pre-orders?

Amazon offers the Pre-order Price Guarantee and Pre-order Price Protection.

If the Amazon.com price decreases between the time you place your order and the end of the day of the release date, you'll receive the lowest price.

Here's an example:

Greetings from Amazon.com.

You saved $23.00 with Amazon.com's Pre-order Price Guarantee!

The price of the item(s) decreased after you ordered them, and we gave you the lowest price.

The following title(s) decreased in price:

Pirates of the Caribbean Four-Movie Collection (Blu-ray + Digital Copy)
              Price on order date: $114.99
        Price charged at shipping: $91.99
Lowest price before release date: $91.99
                        Quantity: 1
                    Total Savings: $23.00

$23.00 is your total savings under our Pre-order Price Guarantee.

This doesn't mean they refunded me any money...just what I saved due to a price change between the pre-order date and the release date.

Then there's Pre-order Price Protection. That's when Amazon screws up and charges you the higher pre-order price at shipping instead of the lower price. In this case they will refund you the difference.

If your order enters the shipping process before the release date and the price is lowered on the release date, we will automatically refund your credit card for the difference between the price you were charged and the release-date price within 48 hours of the release date.

Here's an example of a refund I received:

Greetings from Amazon.com.

We're writing to let you know we processed your refund of $3.00 for your Order 104-6045091-3590667.

This refund is for the following item(s):

    Item: Warrior's Way [Blu-ray]
    Quantity: 1
    ASIN: B004XFZ47C
Reason for refund: Pre-order price protection

Here's the breakdown of your refund for this item:

        Item Refund: $3.00

We'll apply your refund to the following payment method(s):

Bank Account: $3.00

Refunds typically complete within 10 business days and appear as a credit on your statement.

Well Excuse me if I called it a refund. If I  budget $24.95 for a movie and it's subtracted from my account and than 4 days later I receive an e-mail informing me that the Price is $22.95 and put $2.00 back into my account I look at it as some form of refund, so stand me up and put me in front of a firing squad for using the wrong word or phrase.

Whoa there big fella... ! No one was chiding or chastising you . I was just explaining Amazon's refund policy for pre-orders to KinoNiki as he seemed somewhat confused. I certainly didn't mean to offend.

Please reread the posts that you quoted and you will see, where everyone is coming from. Noone accused you of using the wrong word.
There are two different ways that Amazon honors their pre-order price guarantee, like "Bad Father" posted. The "Pre-order Price Guarantee", which is the most common, where you are actually charged the lower price and you will get therefore no extra refund. This is the one which KinoNiki knew and was curious how there was a refund.
The second one is much rarer and it's the "Pre-order Price Protection", which you have obviously gotten.

Edit: Bad Father was faster

I have purchased DVDs from just about everybody in the US.
Most retailers, I haven't had any trouble.

I can understand Amazon's pre-order pricing isn't always the lowest these days what with the fluctuation of US currency. And the pre-order price varies with the DVD distributor.

I buy mostly from Amazon,m why?
They make easy to track your orders,
if I get a bad disc - return no questions.
I can easily cancel any portion of an order.
As a prime users let me order what I want, when I want and no delays to fill the whole order.
and they have a warehouse here, with ON_Track I get orders before the email that said it shipped.
Things I don't like, their reviews don't necessarily represent the particular release and no UPC

example
Other sites Deepdiscount, I wanted to cancel a title, I wasn't due for release for two weeks, they said it was being processed, hell I still have not received it. Their order status sucks. I gave them a piece of my mind, not that they care.

Mhz Networds,
They broadcast foreign media in the Washington, D.C. area, had some nice sets European TV crime dramas with subtitles at a good price.
Some problems with an order, no response.
We don't need stinkin' IMDB's errors, we make our own.

Damn! I can't believe you haven't received your copy of "The Flim-Flam Man" yet Terry. That truely sucks dude . You have to realize though that it isn't Amazon's fault. Although you purchased the DVD through Amazon, they are only the middle-man. Screen Archives Entertainment is the actual culprit in this case, them, and our excellent US Postal Service .

I can't believe the Canadian price for Avatar though...that's outrageous .

BTW, I own the Blu-ray 3-Disc Extended Collector's Edition, the 2-Disc Blu-ray/DVD version and 2 copies of the Blu-ray 3D version of Avatar .
