Month Long Superhero Marathon
Right around the weekend of May 4th Brittany and I have plans to go see The Avengers movie. I thought it may be a good idea to watch all the movies in that franchise... The Incredible Hulk.... Iron Man... Thor... and Captain America: The First Avenger (BTW... do I have those in the right order?) again before going to see The Avengers. That is when I noticed I really been in the mood for some Superhero movies lately. So I thought maybe I will see how many superhero movies and TV Series I could watch between now and the time we go see The Avengers. Note that I don't plan to ONLY watch superhero movies and TV Series.... but I do want to get a taste of everything in my collection anyway.

Being a big fan of Superhero stories... I have a pretty big collection. Below is a list of all the Superhero movies, serials and TV Series that I own. You seem to have altogether overlooked Iron Man 2

The general consensus seems to agree with your viewing order, although a number of people say Captain America should come first, as it's mostly set in the 1940s. The reality is that many scenes overlap in time across the series.

There are also the two Marvel One-Shots to watch:
The Consultant (Thor disc)
A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Thor's Hammer (Captain America disc)

Be sure to sit through the end-credits. Every Avengers movie so far has included a stinger. You and Brittany might also want to play a game of "Spot Stan Lee". He appears as a different character in each film.

As to your list, don't you consider Hellboy a superhero? I'd say that Unbreakable is a super hero movie, although one that's not based on a comic, and definitely downplayed. Once you start including movies not based on comic books, you let in things like Ultraviolet.

Yeah... I know. I never got around to getting Iron Man 2... and completely forgot about it when I placed my last order.

The Thor disc I got is movie only.

I should be getting the Captain America disc within the next week. I believe the one I ordered has some extras... but I don't really know what.

There is several movies I have that I thought were iffy for this marathon and didn't include in the list. But if the mood hits at the time I may watch and include.

My Thoughts:
This is my very first ever taste of Justice League Unlimited. As much as I loved the first two seasons of Justice League... I must say... I think I like this version a bit more. It is just plain fun... not only is there plenty of action... but they also started to play around with some comedic episodes. Brittany watched the episode Kid Stuff with me... and we both laughed through-out the entire episode. And in the episode This Little Piggy... I mean come on!... it is just plain wrong to make Batman sing in a nightclub full of people! Funny?... yes... but definitely wrong! I also like how you get to see many more superheroes in this version of the series... and the new Watchtower looks very cool. It is very hard for me to pick a favorite episode on this disc... but if you were to twist my arm... I would probably have to say The Return. It is a more action oriented like the original series... and I liked the little surprise ending... a character we haven't seen in a while showing back up.

Definitly do Captain America and Thor so as to ready for the Avengers.

I have to say i was blown away with Captain and wish I had gone to the theater after seeing the 2D blu-ray from the library. I'll pick that up when it's on sale for cheap soon enough.
Thor was decent but nothing compared to Cap IMO. Still it's fun watching all these movies tie together and all are very well done.

I'm tempted to try Catwoman again, but soley as a comedy. I caught like 15 minutes on cable last week and laughed til it hurt, so I think I'll grab it from the library next week. I'm sure copies are sitting on the shelf, not sure if they bothered to get blu though.
EDIT: Just checked the library page, and they do not have Catwoman at all. Guess they only carry movies with some meaning, purpose or relevance. I requested Cat Chaser instead.

My Thoughts:
Still enjoying this series very much... though for the most part the episodes on this disc isn't quite as good as those on disc one. My favorite episodes on this disc has to be the two part The Once and Future Thing episodes. I also like seeing Hawkgirl back in a few episodes... though I wish she would get into the action a little more. I always liked that character in the Justice League episodes. Even with what they did with her character towards the end.

Robert Downey Jr screen test

My Thoughts:
Iron Man was always one of my favorites growing up. I used to watch the cartoons all the time. But until this movie I never really seen an origin story for him.  And I must say I enjoyed every minute of it! This is my third time watching the movie since I got the DVD. And I loved it just as much this time as I did the first. I will admit I was concerned when I first heard that Robert Downey, Jr. got the roll of Tony Stark/Iron Man.... since even though he is a decent enough actor... he never really impressed me all that much. But I must admit... I really liked him in this movie. He seemed to nail the role for me. Sure there was some things that was really unbelievable in the storyline... like being able to create the suit he did in captivity... without the captors being any the wiser about it. But you know... I really didn't mind it. It worked for me. For anyone watching the movie for the first time... or may have missed it when you did watch the movie. Look for a final scene after the end credits role... very cool!

My Thoughts:
Another disc down... still enjoying the series quite a bit. All the episodes on this disc are quite good... but none of which I would call favorite episodes. Though out of these episodes I did get a kick out of Clash. But I must admit, I am not too fond of the Cadmus storyline. At least not yet. I mean it seems to me that the storyline has potential... but it seems they are taking their sweet time telling it. And I find myself loosing interest in it already. But over-all that really is a minor thing.

I was pleasantly surprised at both Captain America and Thor. I really enjoyed both, especially Captain America. I thought it was well done and enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I was going to. I'm really looking forward to the Avengers as well. I kind of did the same thing you're doing, though not as encompassing. I've tried to watch all the movies leading up to it. I think so far I'm just missing Iron Man 2, but can't bring myself to watch that one as the previews I saw looked really bad.

My Thoughts:
Before the movies... the only thing I really knew of the Incredible Hulk was the '70s TV Series with Bill Bixby and Lou Ferigno. I never read the comics and seen very little of the cartoons when I was a kid. I never really cared much for the first movie version... Hulk. But this one I liked quite a bit. It seems like everything the first Hulk movie did wrong this one did right. The fight between The Hulk and Abomination  was great... lasted just long enough. Some of these movies tend to extend that final fight longer then it should be. I think Edward Norton did a great job as Bruce Banner. It is a shame he will not be continuing the role for The Avengers... hopefully Mark Ruffalo will do just as good of a job.

My Thoughts:
This disc finishes off the first season set. After complaining about it on the last disc review I did... I found myself really getting into the whole Cadmus storyline. It sucked me in to the point that I couldn't wait to watch the next episode. I enjoyed every second of all the episodes on this disc... but if I was forced to pick one favorite out of these episodes... I would probably go with Epilogue. Which was more of a Batman Beyond episode then a Justice League Unlimited... but I found it to be a good watch. I really like where they went with the storyline. At the end of the episode Batman was going to meet up with Superman. I wish they would have shown them meeting up. I was curios about how they would make Superman look after 65 years. I really enjoyed watching this set... and looking forward to watching the season two set. Just wish there was more then 13 episodes.

I just couldn't wait to check out a little of the final season. I really liked the addition of The Legion of Doom. Brings me back a bit... as I remember enjoying my first taste of The Legion of Doom while watching the Super Friends cartoon when I was a kid. I enjoyed all the episodes on this disc quite a bit... but if I had to pick a favorite of these episodes... I would probably go with Chaos at the Earth's Core. I liked the storyline... and I liked the combination of heroes used. Also interesting with this episode. They changed the outfit Supergirl wore. Instead of the white t-shirt type outfit it was something more similar to Superman's outfit. Almost like a formal uniform compared to a more casual uniform in previous episodes. Oddly that is the only episode on the disc with Supergirl... so don't know yet if the outfit is here to stay.

My Thoughts:
I must admit... despite all the rave reviews... I went into this movie with low expectations. Not because I haven't enjoyed the other Marvel films I have seen... because I have, very much so. But because Thor was never a favorite character of mine. But I may have to rethink that after watching this movie. Just like the other Marvel movies... I enjoyed every moment of this one. I was never familiar with Chris Hemsworth... the only other movie I have with him is Star Trek... but But I thought he did a fantastic job in the title role. I am very embarrassed to say that through-out the entire movie I didn't even recognize Anthony Hopkins. I didn't realize he was in this movie until I start to write this review and saw his name come up. No wonder I was so impressed with work done on Odin. Another familiar face I was happy to see was that of Kat Dennings. An actress I have gotten to like quite a bit in the TV series 2 Broke Girls. An actress I hope to add more of to my collection. It surprised me how much I enjoyed the storyline. It has an interesting storyline... and plenty of great action. This is definitely a movie I would classify as Must See! Unfortunately this is a bare bones, ex-rental DVD... it is one I will eventually get upgraded.

My Thoughts:
Unlike Thor... Captain America is a character I always liked a lot. I grew up watching him... from the cartoons to the '70s TV movies. Because of this I thought my expectations would be too high and I would end up disappointed. But I found I loved every second of it. The storyline kept my attention through-out. I thought all the actors did a great job. I don't normally like WWII storylines... just way too far before my time and I never been a history buff. But this movie I feel like I could watching it again right now. What a day... two movies in a row that I absolutely loved! As most of you already know... I seldomly give a full 5 out of 5 rating to anything I watch... and here today I felt the need to do it 2 times in a row! This movie had me hooked on the storyline... it had me enthralled in the action... and it even gave me a few laughs. What more can you ask for from a movie? While I can't think of a thing I would have changed about the movie... I wish I had a better DVD version. Unfortunately the one I have is a bare bones movie only release. Definitely one I hope to upgrade before too long.

I didn't get a chance to see Captain at the theater, but read and heard many a review that said it was also among the best use of 3D ever. The 2D blu-ray I had from the library looked insanly good and nearly 3D in spots. If you have a 3D HD set-up at home, this would probably be worth the 3D-BD price hike. Don't recall hearing anything about the 3D version of Thor though.

Unfortunately 3-D isn't even an option for me. I am blind in one eye... so those 3-D glasses don't work for me. Before my accident I only ever got to see one 3-D movie. And that was just a few minutes of the movie. It was one of the Nightmare on Elm Street sequels.

If this 3-D craze continues I hope they are able to figure out something for those of us with only one working eye!
