In a couple weeks I will be escorting Brittany to Hollins University in Roanoke, Va.

I will be able to spend a long weekend (28th-1st) right on campus. She gets to move into her dorm on the 29th. The first night (28th) she will be staying in the suite I have reserved in their Barbee House (right on campus). My suite will have One bedroom (two twin beds), living room, kitchen (stove, refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot, dishes), bathroom, cable TV, DVD, Ethernet internet connection, WiFi. I probably won't want to come home!

We are leaving here in 2 weeks from tonight... late night (we have to meet the bus at 2:10 am on the 28th... getting to Roanoke around 4 pm on the 28th.

While there they will be giving Brittany and myself a tour of the school... and there will be a lot of activities going on that weekend for new students and their families. I will be taking my laptop with me so will be able to come onto the site each day.... though I am sure my time will be limited with lots to do. But early mornings and evenings I should be around.

I am also planning on bringing a camera so I will be able to post some pictures of Brittany, the school and hopefully the area around as I hear it is gorgeous country.

Today I went to  the bus station buying the tickets for my Britt and myself. It was so hard saying I only needed 1 round trip ticket instead of two. The bus station is on our local college campus right here in town (which Britt refused to even apply to!). So I walked on up to get the tickets (they were cheaper if I bought them 2 weeks in advance). All the sudden on the way walking home it all got a bit real for me and... even though I hate to admit it... I got a bit choked up. This is not going to be easy! I can only imagine how I will feel when I get on the bus all by myself to come home!

Virgina is mountain country... wonder if I will get the chance to do any hiking!

Virginia is indeed a beautiful state. If you get a chance to visit the Shenandoah Valley / Luray Caverns, you will experience stunning natural beauty that you will not soon forget.

I am hoping we will be able to get away from campus a little... but it is already a full weekend what with all the school activities. I will know more once we get there of course.

But thanks for the suggestions... would be nice to check it out.

I just  checked the map... unfortunately not likely at all... it is up over 140 miles away from where we will be.

Well, you will undoubtedly get more chances over the next few years. Best wishes. I remember those days with my kids, and they were wonderful. Here's hoping yours turn out the same.

She is going into Creative Writing. She has talked about writing both novels as well as shown interest in writing scripts for TV and movies.

So I trust we can look forward to seeing some "Written By Brittany" credits in DVDP in a few years time, then....

Aw Kathy, where's fun in that.....if we can't have ten-page "discussions" about Britt's name variants in the CLT!

Don't worry Mole... she already mentioned wanting to go by a pen name (so I suggested Bic  )... so there will probably be 10 or more names for us to weed through!

Well we will be arriving at the college a week from today. I am feeling a bit nervous... very excited and a little bit sad all at the same time. I am so dreading the 14hr bus ride! At least I will have my laptop to watch some movies and TV shows on the trip. Well while the battery lasts at least! I haven't been on a Greyhound bus in MANY years... not since I was about Brittany's age! I wonder if they have some way of charging laptops and such on the bus nowadays! That would be nice... but probably too much to hope for. If nothing else I am hoping that I can charge my laptop somewhere when in between buses as there is 2 transfers between here and Roanoke.

One hard decision I have to make is what DVDs I should bring with me. A friend gave me a 32 disc CD Wallet... so I will be able to bring 32 DVDs with me (won't have anything to play BDs on). How do you choose only 32 out of a collection of over 3200!?!

We have planned a movie night one of the days I am over there.... it will be Brittany, her roommate Riahana and Myself. So we gave Riahana the link to my collection. Needless to say she was amazed by it... and she gave me a rather long list of titles she wouldn't mind seeing. So there is at least some I can choose from.

I was just looking at Greyhound's website... and what do I see...

- Power Outlets: Located throughout the coach are standard 110-volt plug-ins. To make the trip more enjoyable, plug in your laptops, iPods and portable DVD players, and enjoy.

- Wi-Fi: Our buses are equipped with Wi-Fi hot spots. This technology is new, and there are spots on the trip where the service may be unavailable. We also do not advise downloading large files, as the speed will be relatively slow. The Wi-Fi service is free of charge...enjoy.

Maybe this trip won't be quite as bad as I originally thought!

Twenty plus years ago my aunt moved from Buffalo to Colorado. I drove her car and a trailer of her belongings out to Colorado for her.

I left Buffalo right before Christmas and returned on New Years Eve.

Since she was paying my return fare I refused airfare and took a Greyhound bus. Oh boy did I hate that bus ride.

I swore then that I would never, ever take a bus cross country again. Even reading about a Greyhound bus ride sends shivers down my spine.

Your trip won't be as long and since you can watch DVDs you might not find the experience as bad as I did.
