When I first started using DVD Profiler, I was always amazed at how quickly stuff made it into the database, it was a very rare day indeed that I ever had to submit the first entry for a DVD I bought.  It only ever happened if I pre-ordered something and it would always get updated pretty quickly afterwards.

These days though, reasonably mainstream stuff doesn't seem to make it into the DB for quite some time, if at all.  Is it because people are buying more Blu-ray (most of the ones I have issues with are DVD's) or just a decrease in people filling in profiles?

For example, Bullet to the Head (DVD) still isn't in the DB (yes I know, your response is 'well why haven't you submitted the profile yourself').  I have 5 or 6 DVD's now which don't show up, and I will eventually get around to uploading the profiles myself, I just wondered if anyone else had noticed a drop off in submissions?

Yep. Lack of development and solving issues is something I believe has caused a very noticeable lack in even big titles being added. Personally, I no longer submit anything more than the bare minimum as I have better places to devote my time to where people behind the scenes care and improve the main issues, instead of just small ones to try and hide behind a lack of care, knowing that the hardcore few will post and back anything Ken/Gerri says about future instalments and updates. Expect some of these to post saying "what do you expect just one man to do?", "You only paid $30 for a lifetime subscription" etc etc.

Ken doesn't care, and if just 2 or 3 of some of the more prolific users here didn't, the program would bomb even quicker.

A real shame, as it is the best on the market, with a genuinely good community, but everyone else is catching up... fast.

Me too, I leave the Copy and Paste of Cast and Crew to others.

And all those "Add common name", "Remove common name", "Add birth year", "Remove birth year" contributions...

Mine too.
Even though I quite frequently draw the "One-Man-Company"-card this doesn't excuse the complete lack of support for the main-application.
Even the point that this program isn't the cash-cow it could be is moot (pun intended), since a change of licensing models could quite easily be achieved (as pointed out several times before).
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

I don't know... maybe it is because I only buy US R1 titles... but I don't see any slowing down at all. Seldomly ever find something that is not already in the database. Most things I find not already in the database is child profiles for TV Series... and since that is optional I am not surprised by that.

I am also seeing all the time having to vote on updated profiles. Not slowed down any from what I can tell.

So I guess I just been rather lucky?

So, some not long out but no UK DVD profile for

White House Down
R.I.P.D.
Despicable Me & Despicable Me 2 boxed set
Supernatural: Eighth Season boxed set (no primary entry, not just missing child entries)
Bullet to the Head (until I uploaded it earlier)
Side by Side (but obscure, so no surprise)
Game of Thrones: Complete Second Season (been out ages) - no images
RoboCop Trilogy boxed set

As I said, I know I can add them, and for some I will, but it's different from say 2 years ago where I was always amazed anything I bought was present.  Maybe Region 2 viewers are using something else now?

Think so.
I can only speak for the German locality which used to have a very active contributing community.
As of now this has boiled down to only a handful of contributors of which 2 restrict themselves to cosmetic corrections of Birthyears and common names.

Strangely with the retreat of the contributors one can too observe a decline in the quality of contributions.
When I started with BluRays (2010) almost none of the profiles needed to be corrected, nowadays you mostly find cloned Cast and Crew data from "accepted profiles" which quite often is incorrect (for not saying: Third-Party scraped).

I agree with this. I check the Pending Updates several times in a day and usually find many to vote on. So it could be a locality thing.

What do you mean "anything I bought was present" - that just doesn't happen if you live in a less populated country ....

eg:

Total DVDs: 554   Owned: 554
Accepted Profile Contributions: 561
Accepted Image Contributions: 272

I don't understand this "already in the database idea" - it very rarely happens :-)

I don't buy DVDs anymore, but almost every Blu-ray I purchase is already in the database...most of them complete profiles.  Once in a while I will have to add information but, lately, most of my contributions have been because I have purchased an alternate release or box set.

if you buy  dvd and there is no info . just down load the blu ray  & copy and paste / type in the pertinent details  and then submit it .. doesn't matter what Region  just make sure it is accurate and correct ..

if it has never seen the light of day within the ' Invelos data vaults  for that upc coded dvd it will be approved almost the same day .. if anyone has any changes or beefs with 'said title 'they' can submit changes and then the votes will tally up and that same said title will again hit the invlelos valults but not usually until maybe 7 days later ...

This accurately sums up the UK community also IMO.
