Because I think it would happen, maybe you could have still lived on the island 50 years from now, but the island would have been flooded anyway. That is the problem men has when they start living somewhere. If it is either below sea level or almost at sea level there is nothing you can do about the climate changes.
We indeed can be better for the environment, but instead of Tuvalu not exsisting in 50 years it might be a 100 years from now. Only difference is that you and I won't be around to worry about it, but our children will have to do that. I don't think anyone could disagree that the effect of gloabal warming has been hastened by the actions of man. If we had longer to act then we could make a real difference - for instance on Tuvalu if there was more time then it might have been possible to do something which would help. What we cannot do is make the sea level go down. Even if the whole event would have been natural and men had nothing to do with it. | | | Jean-Paul |

JP_S - Exactly!
Think of mother nature has a train going 50 mph, (heading towards Al Gore's worst nightmare) man by his actions can get the train going faster 51 - 52 mph, or work real hard at being green & slow it to 47 -48 mph. Man cannot stop the train.

Isn't the point that if we slow down the train we not only lessen the effects of the impact, but also gain more time to prepare for the crash? There also seems to be wildly different opinions as to how much we can slow down the train, but it seems irresponsible to assume that we can't slow it down enough to have any effect. If you were aboard a train heading for a collision with a car with your children in it, wouldn't you at least try to apply the emergency brakes...? | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users. Now back on track Another question to think about and lets use the same analogy. Mother Nature intended the train to go 50mph. Men sped it up to lets say 53mph, we are trying to slow it down to 47 mph. Do it long enough and they'll balance eachother out, but what if... we slow down that train to 40mph and leave it running at 40mph... won't we stop before Mother Nature intended the train to stop and have a whole different problem??? | | | Jean-Paul | | | Last edited: by Zoeper |

| Posted: | | | | Hi Guys,
When the train reaches its destination it turns around & goes back. Cyclic! When you reach global warming max., the train will start it journey to global cooling max.. You apply the brakes or prepare by choosing wisely where you live. It's still wise to slow the train, but understand the train will still reach its turn-around point. The benefits learned by slowing the train, is the reward. Remember the cyclic action of global natural warming/cooling occurred before mankind was around. Or the trains been making the round trip, forever, man has just now seen the train.

This is the part that always gets me. We have scientific proof that the earth goes through periods of cooling and heating. Do we, I mean 'man', really believe that we can halt something that has been going on for millenia? | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
