| Posted: | | | | Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Complete Fourth SeasonBuffy begins college feeling completely overwhelmed. But once the monsters show up, it's just like old times. Then she starts dating Riley, a handsome commando battling the same monsters. He's part of a secret organization called The Initiative and Buffy is all too happy to join the team. But she soon suspects The Initiative may be more dangerous than the monsters they are supposed to be battling... Episode Watched:FEAR ITSELFA Halloween party at a campus frat house takes a frightening turn with the sudden appearance of blood-sucking bats, zombies, and a demon that plays on everyone's innermost fears. My Thoughts:This is a pretty good Halloween episode... though not the best Buffy Halloween I seen. It is entertaining... some of the costumes were pretty good... but think the costumes from season 2 episode was better. I did get a kick out of it when they revealed the Fear Demon though. | Posted: | | | | Title: Dr. Giggles: Twisted Terror CollectionYear: 1992 Director: Manny Coto Rating: R Length: 95 Min. Video: Anamorphic Widescreen 1.78:1 Audio: English: Dolby Digital: Dolby Surround Subtitles: English, French, Spanish Stars:Larry Drake Holly Marie Combs Cliff De Young Glenn Quinn Keith Diamond Richard Bradford Plot:He makes house calls. No appointment necessary. Laughter is the best medicine when Dr. Giggles gives fans of cult horror the right guffaws-and-gore prescription. Larry Drake plays the night-prowling surgical M.D. (as in Maniacally Deranged) who takes a vengeful whack – or saw, scalpel, stomach pump or whatever else he finds in his little black bag of medical malpractice – at teens, cops, and other residents of a once-pleasant town. From an old haunted house to a midway fun house, from bedrooms to the O.R., the doctor is in(sane). And keeping pace with him is a start-to-finish spree of medical puns that make this romp a cut above. Dr. Giggles: He'll keep you in stitches. Extras:N/A My Thoughts: I have loved this movie for years now... this movie stars Holly Marie Combs (Charmed) and Glenn Quinn (Roseanne, Angel). This is one that I got in the Twisted Terror Collection boxset. When I first saw this movie I didn't know who Holly Marie Combs was... but since this movie I have been infatuated with her every since. Now I am such a huge fan of hers I buy everything I can find with her in it. This movie has a lot of creative kills in it... but I think my favorite of them has to be the stomach pump... that is what I would have to call creative and sickening both at the same time. The only thing I didn't like about this DVD release is there was no extras what so ever... not even the Theatrical Trailer. If you never seen this movie... it definitely comes recommended by me. Video: Anamorphic Widescreen 1.78:1 Audio: English: Dolby Digital: Mono, French: Dolby Digital: Mono, Spanish: Dolby Digital: Mono Subtitles: English, French, Spanish Stars:Lauren Tewes Jennifer Jason Leigh John DiSanti Peter DuPré Gwen Lewis Kitty Lunn Plot:A lovely blind and deaf teen reaches for a plate she just set aside. It's gone. She reaches again...and it's back in its original place. Someone is playing a cruel game with her. That someone is the serial killer terrorizing Miami in this shocker from the production company behind the original Friday the 13th. Making memorable movie debuts are Jennifer Jason Leigh (Single White Female, Dolores Claiborne) as that impaired but not helpless girl, and Lauren Tewes (The Love Boat) as her TV newscaster sister whose investigation inadvertently leads the killer (John DiSanti) to her home – and a final sequence that will leave you breathless. Eye this Stranger – and experience face-to-face fear as few films deliver. Extras:N/A My Thoughts: This is what I would call more of a light horror... it played out more like a suspense/thriller... but also had a bit of blood in it as well. Another thing I noticed is this movie (which was made in 1981) has a real TV Movie feel to it... if it wasn't for the gore and the several scenes of nudity I would have guessed that this one was a TV Movie. There is a couple familiar faces in it as well... Of course Jennifer Jason Lee... but also Lauren Tewes who was part of the main cast of The Love Boat. It is a good movie... well above average. Unfortunately the DVD itself has absolutely no extras what so ever. My Rating: 4/5 Count: Movie Count: 68 TV Ep. Count: 35 Other Count: 8 I Made It! (10/15) | | | Pete |

Have we got a pal for you. Wes Craven (A Nightmare on Elm Street, Red Eye) directs "a witty ghoul story" (Caryn James, The New York Times) that combines artificial intelligence with all-too-genuine horror. Lonely teenage genius Paul (Matthew Laborteaux), a specialist in brain research, has two best friends: his remarkable robot BB and the beautiful girl next door (Kristy Swanson). When tragedy strikes both his friends, he desperately tries to save them both by pushing technology beyond its mortal limits into a terrifying new realm. Like a modern-day Dr. Frankenstein, Paul discovers too late that he has created a rampaging monster. Your blood will run cold...if it runs at all...after meeting this Deadly Friend. Extras:Feature Trailers Closed Captioned My Thoughts: This is one I watched several times when I was a teen... and was thrilled to get in the Twisted Terror Collection boxset. This is the second time I watched it since getting it on DVD. I enjoyed every minute of it. I believe anyone that seen this movie will agree with me when I say that the best kill scene had to be the basketball scene. If you never seen this movie I suggest checking it out. I don't believe you will be sorry. I just wish there would have been more extras on the disc for this one... all you get is the Theatrical trailer. My Rating: 4/5 Count: Movie Count: 69 TV Ep. | Posted: | | | | Tales from the Darkside: The First Season Tales from the Darkside, the uniquely terrifying, frighteningly popular horror anthology series, is back. Packed with haunting stories that at first light appear to be about normal situations, these tales are gradually twisted until they become something sinister, shocking and totally unsettling. Revealing the dark underworld of our everyday existence, Tales from the Darkside includes stories penned by masters of horror, with unforgettable performances by some of Hollywood's finest stars. Dark, scary and with a bizarre sense of justice, all 24 episodes of Tales from the Darkside's spine-tingling first season will capture your imagination...and never let it go. Episodes Watched:THE TEAR COLLECTORUnable to stop sobbing, Prudence finds a way to profit from her sadness when she meets a man who collects tears. My Thoughts:This one has a very young looking Victor Garber (Alias) as the Tear Collector. Unfortunately I didn't get much from this one. It was little more then weird. My Rating: 2/5 MADNESS ROOMWith a plan to scare her husband to death, Cathy Osborne and her friend, Michael, bring him to the "madness room": a room from which they claim no one has ever stayed the night and survived. Little do they know they are in for some unadulterated terror. My Thoughts:This one I enjoyed a bit more. It has some pretty good atmosphere. And is a story that kept my interest through-out. My Rating: 3.5/5 IF THE SHOES FIT...While staying at a hotel for a meeting, Bo Gumbs, a fast-talking politician running for governor, learns his true colors. My Thoughts:This one is a real stinker... more then silly... it is just stupid. I could barely give it my full attention. My Rating: 1/5 LEVITATIONKharma was once one of the greatest magicians in the world. Now, doing a cheap act in a flea-bitten circus, the once-great illusionist is heckled by a fan who quickly learns the ups and downs of real magic. My Thoughts: This one is a bit better. It has an interesting story. But it still wasn't quite as good as some of the episodes I have seen. My Rating: 2.5/5 IT ALL COMES OUT IN THE WASHA greedy developer discovers a Chinese laundry that offers to "wash out" guilt. He soon finds out that there is an unpleasant price to pay for such a unique service. My Thoughts: An interesting episode. Though a little on the weird side. But over all I enjoyed it. My Rating: 3/5 BIGALOW'S LAST SMOKEMr. Bigalow is driven to the brink of madness by a mysterious figure on TV – one who insists that he quit his unhealthy habits. My Thoughts: This one is an OK episode. Nothing too special... but entertaining. I did like the way it ended though. My Rating: 3/5 GRANDMA'S LAST WISHDetermined to have her family understand exactly what she is going through, a grandmother makes one last wish before her family commits her to a retirement home. My Thoughts: This one is played out more for fun. I did enjoy it. I was thinking while watching it that this one could play out one of two ways. And I was right... but wonder if the other way I was thinking would have played out better. But it was still pretty good. My Rating: 3.5/5 THE FALSE PROPHETCassie Pines discovers Horace X, a mechanical fortune-teller, in a diner. While uncanny with his predictions, Horace proves to be very demanding and extremely possessive. My Thoughts: A good but strange episode. Has an interesting storyline. | Posted: | | | | Title: The Wolf Man (The Legacy Collection) Year: 1941 Rating: NR Director: George Waggner Stars: Lon Chaney Jr., Claude Rains, Warren William, Ralph Bellamy, Patric Knowles, Bela Lugosi Plot: The original horror classic that introduced one of the screen's most infamous monsters! Lon Chaney Jr. portrays Larry Talbot, who returns to his father's (Claude Rains) castle in Wales and meets a beautiful woman (Evelyn Ankers). One fateful night, Talbot escorts her to a local carnival where Jenny's fate is revealed by a mysterious gypsy fortune teller. The dreamlike atmosphere and elaborate settings combined with a chilling musical score make The Wolf Man a masterpiece not only of the genre, but for all time! My Thoughts: Another classic horror film that's well-deserving of it's classic status. I hadn't seen it before, though I've owned the disc for years. Since I picked up the new movie this year, I figured I better get around to watching the old one before I watch the newer. Lon Chaney, Jr. does a great job in his role, as does Claude Rains, and the rest of the cast support them quite well. The atmosphere is suitably spooky and the film is wonderfully Gothic horror styled, with the shadows and mist in the marsh. Recommended. | Posted: | | | | Supernatural: Season 6 Season six will be a season of mystery and shadow. Heaven and Hell have been left in complete disarray since the apocalyptic events of season five. And now, monsters, angels and demons roam across a lawless and chaotic landscape. And so Dean Winchester, who has retired from hunting and sworn never to return, finds himself being pulled back into his old life – pulled back by none other than Sam Winchester, who has escaped from Hell. The two reunite to beat back the rising tide of creatures and demon-spawn, but they quickly realize that neither are who they used to be, their relationship isn’t what it used to be, and that nothing is what it seems. Episodes Watched:Exile on Main StreetAfter Dean gives up hunting, Sam is mysteriously freed from his cage in hell and finds Dean to tell him he must rejoin the fight. My Thoughts:A very good opener for the new season. A good storyline... though left open a bit for the main storyline of the season I am sure. Definitely was enough to get me excited about the new season! My Rating: 4.5/5 Two and a Half MenSam investigates when the parents of missing babies are murdered; Dean reluctantly leaves Ben and Lisa to help Sam. My Thoughts:Another good episode. Interesting story for the episode long plot. Still not sure I got a handle on the season long plot just yet. My Rating: 4/5 The Third ManSam and Dean seek Castiel's help when they investigate a case of police officers who seem to have been killed by Egyptian plagues. My Thoughts:This is the first appearance of Castiel in the new season. Another good episode. I wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did... as I did get a bit tired of the whole Angels storyline from last season. My Rating: 4/5 Weekend at Bobby'sBobby asks Dean and Sam for help after Crowley refuses to return Bobby's soul; a deep secret about Crowley is revealed. My Thoughts: An interesting and excellent episode. It was a bit strange that Dean and Sam were very limited in the episode. But it is a great story all the same. The seaside village of Luna Bay is rife with outcasts and plagued by an outbreak of missing persons. As the sun sets, the Tribe rises: a group of adrenalin-fueled, thrill-crazed vampires tears up the surf and the streets with nonstop action. But when a champion surfer (Tad Hilgenbrinck) and his sister (Autumn Reeser) move in, dark secrets erupt into hot-blooded passions and full-blooded fear. Helping fight the forces of hell: Corey Feldman in his signature role of vampire hunter Edgar Frog. Once you join the Tribe, there's no turning back. Extras:Scene Access Deleted Scenes Featurettes Music Videos My Thoughts: Before getting this movie I had heard nothing but terrible things about it... but my love for the first movie made me get this one anyway. It is now my second viewing of this one... And I feel the same as I did the first time. I went into this movie hoping to like it... but expecting to hate it. And maybe this attitude going into it is what helped me... because I enjoyed it. No... it is not nearly as good as the first one... but it is a decent vampire movie. Just nothing more then that. This release also has some decent extras including 2 alternate endings... which I got a kick out of. My Rating: 3/5 Count: Movie Count: 70 TV Ep. Count: 47 I Made It! (10/20)Other Count: 8 I Made It! Video: Widescreen 1.85:1 Audio: English: Dolby Digital: Mono, French: Dolby Digital: Mono Subtitles: English, Spanish Stars:Anthony Perkins Vera Miles John Gavin Martin Balsam John McIntire Simon Oakland Plot:Alfred Hitchcock's masterpiece of the macabre stars Anthony Perkins as the troubled Norman Bates, whose "old dark house" and adjoining motel are not the place to spend a quiet evening. No one knows that better than Janet Leigh, the film's ill-fated heroine who is victimized in the now-notorious "shower scene." Vera Miles, Martin Balsam, John Gavin and John McIntire co-star in Hitchcock's most compelling and terrifying film. Screenplay by Joseph Stefano. Extras:Scene Access Feature Trailers Deleted Scenes Featurettes Gallery Production Notes 8 Page Booklet Newsreel Footage My Thoughts: I have watched this movie time and again... and I never seem to tire of it. There really is nothing about this movie I dislike. As I am learning... Hitchcock was an outstanding artist. Anthony Perkins, Vera Miles, Janet Lee... everyone were amazing in their roles. I pretty much know this movie by heart... and still I am glued to my seat every time I watch it. The DVD itself is very good quality and there is a nice collection of extras to check out as well. Meg Tilly and Dennis Franz co-star in this terrifying sequel to one of the most suspenseful films of all time. Extras:Scene Access Feature Trailers My Thoughts: This is only the second time for me watching this one. While it is not nearly as good as the original movie. It is definitely worth the time put in to watch it. I didn't even recognize Meg Tilly playing Mary. She of course was much younger then she was in anything else I have seen her in. This is a short document of The Sedlec Ossuary, in the Czech Republic - which, if you haven't heard of it, is a church decorated with skeletal remains. That's why I felt it fit with the season, and it's definitely somewhere I would want to visit if I was ever to visit Eastern Europe. The film itself is only 10 minutes long, with lots of fast, fast cuts, and filmmaker Svankmajer is known for his surrealism, so this may not be for everyone, but I'd give it a look if you get a chance. | Posted: | | | | Vampire Circus This is another early 70s Hammer vampire movie featuring a fair amount of exposed female flesh (in one case totally nude though painted with green tiger stripes!) but this one, rises above simple titillation with a great plot about a travelling circus of vampires (the clue is in the name) who are fulfilling a curse of one of their staked brethren by using the blood of the children of those who 'killed' him to return him to un-life. On top of the solid plot we have some great individual characterisations such as Adrienne Corri as the 'mother figure' gypsy aids her vampire troupe with cunning, Emil as the dark, seductive vampire killer and Count Mitterhouse played just the right amount over the top and giving a real feeling of how powerful a vampire should be when fighting for his life. Add some clever use of ideas - the Vampire transforming to wolf had been done occasionally but a Panther is original and fun, the vampire twin acrobats (who feel each other's wounds, one of them a pre-Doctor Who Lalla Ward) "seeming" to fly life bats in their act, the supernatural mirror that allows them to spirit their victims away; all this and some good gory kills too, make it one of the most entertaining vampire movies out there. 8/10The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms Hard to judge by today's standards not only because of the comparison of special effects but because a lot of what could be seen as clichés are only so because this movie has had so many of its original ideas copied. Still, a good rollicking adventure, Ray Harryhausen's great stop-motion work and so many ideas which have been (and sometimes still are getting) borrowed and touted as 'original' means this one is certainly worthy of an hour and a quarter of your time. 6/10Secrets of Sex A series of (mostly) horror vignettes that has some good ideas but, barring the introduction of some stylised and 'arty' nudity to enliven some sections, fails to surprise with any of its twists. Interesting period piece but ultimately unfullfilling. 4/10The Devil Rides Out Charles Gray (as leader of a demonic cult) and Christopher Lee (the knowledgeable hero) are the two great leads which make this film the exciting satanic thriller that it is. Lee especially gives a commanding performance in every scene he's in which not only works for the viewer but also makes the fact that everyone seems to follow the character's instructions, however odd they may be, more believable. The effects may not stand up nowadays but the sense of menace, well paced storyline and great acting performances certainly do... and it's nice to see education being more useful than brawn for once too! 7/10 | | | It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong |

Video: Anamorphic Widescreen 1.85:1 Audio: English: Dolby Digital: Mono, French: Dolby Digital: Mono Subtitles: English, Spanish Stars:Betsy Palmer Adrienne King Jeannine Taylor Robbi Morgan Kevin Bacon Plot:Terror and suspense abound in this 24-hour nightmare of blood. Camp Crystal Lake has been been shuttered for over 20 years due to several vicious and unsolved murders. The camp's new owner and several young counselors are readying the property for re-opening despite warnings of a "death curse" by local residents. The curse proves true on Friday the 13th as one by one each of the counselors is stalked by a violent killer. This film is widely acclaimed for its horrifying and creative murder sequences. Extras:Scene Access Closed Captioned My Thoughts: This is, of course, the one that started it all. Definitely a classic when it comes to horror. I feel it is a good movie... definitely worth watching... but I have seen better. I really liked the character of Alice in this one. Video: Anamorphic Widescreen 1.85:1 Audio: English: Dolby Digital: Mono, French: Dolby Digital: Mono Subtitles: English, Spanish Stars:Amy Steel John Furey Adrienne King Kirsten Baker Stuart Charno [Stu Charno] Warrington Gillette Plot:Just when you thought it was safe to go back to camp... here's even more heart-pounding terror. Five years after the horrible blood bath at Camp Crystal Lake, all that remains is the legend of Jason Voorhees and his demented mother, who had murdered seven camp counselors. At the nearby summer camp, the new counselors are unconcerned about the warnings to stay away from the infamous site. Carefree, the young people roam the area, not sensing the ominous lurking presence. One by one, they are attacked and brutally slaughtered. Suspense and screams abound in this compelling thriller. Extras:Scene Access Closed Captioned My Thoughts: The second movie in the series is a good one. This one Jason doesn't have his infamous hockey mask yet. Instead it is a burlap sack. I am enjoying this one just as much as the first... if not a hair better. These films seem to strike a good nostalgia cord for me.
