Plot:
Jordan Sands (Victoria Justice) is a hot, allergy-prone 17-year-old girl forced to be the woman of the house after her mother’s death. Her father, David (Matt Winston), is struggling to make ends meet while her younger brother, Hunter (Chase Ellison), drives his family crazy with gory pranks. Things start to look up when they inherit their Great Uncle Dragomir Vucovic’s castle in Wolfsberg, Romania which could relieve them of their financial woes. After arriving in Wolfsberg during Moonlight Mania which honors the infamous Wolfsberg Beast, they meet the strange and steely Madame Varcolac (Brooke Shields) who currently cares for Uncle Dragomir’s ancient castle.

Having spent most of her life as the Wolfsberg Manor housekeeper, Madame V discourages David from selling the property, but perky real estate agent Paulina Von Eckberg (Brooke D’Orsay) has other plans in mind. Not everything is what it seems in this town and the Sands’ visit goes awry when a freak lab accident gradually transforms Jordan into a werewolf. As her body changes, so does her personality. Jordan becomes a graceful, athletic, self-confident young woman. However, Jordan’s dark, hairy side is dangerous to others and the change confuses her new suitor, Goran (Steven Grayhm), the town’s young, attractive butcher. In order to salvage her crush and return back to her normal self, Jordan must rely on her pesky little brother and Madame V to save her before it’s too late.


My Thoughts:
My daughter Brittany went on and on about this new Nickelodeon movie airing last night... and how I like both werewolf movies as well as family entertainment I went ahead and recorded this one to watch today. For about the first half hour I didn't think much was going to come from this one. Then once the girl was infected it picked up. And it continued to pick up through the rest of the movie. It got to the point that I was really enjoying it. It surprised me just how much I did get into it... I could actually see myself getting a DVD release if one comes out.

My Thoughts:
This is a movie I have always enjoyed quite a bit. It has a nice mixture of horror and comedy that is just fun to watch. I really liked Linnea Quigley's character in this one. And thought it was a nice touch that they made it so her worse fear is realized in this movie.

This Collector's Edition DVD has a nice Easter Egg. There is a zombie subtitle track where all you get is grrr's ugghhh's.. this is not the one I am talking about here. If you go to that zombie subtitle track... highlight "Off" and press up on your remote you will be on a hidden red brain. Press enter here and you get a note from the zombies saying they didn't like how they were portrayed in that subtitle track.... that they are not mindless like that. And you get the option of subtitles of the zombie's thoughts. The last time I watched this movie... I watched it with his track on. I enjoyed it quite a bit. There was more then once that I was literally laughing out loud reading these "Zombie Thoughts". I felt it really added to the movie. Of course it I wouldn't watch this movie with them on all the time... but I do see it as something I would want to do again... maybe the next time I watch it.

My Thoughts:
I recorded this movie off cable last night... while going through the menu guide... I stumbled across it and another one I recorded. This movie... while ok... entertaining for what it is I guess... just didn't impress me very much. I just had a hard time getting into it. The storyline was pretty good... but I just didn't find it quite right. The atmosphere for the movie they were trying to tell seemed to be a bit off. I didn't like how they did the whole possession part of the storyline. It just felt like it should have been much more.

My Thoughts:
Decent movie for what it is... but I didn't care for the way they made this one. It went from horror movie to a crime/action flick... then they brought back the killer shark to bring it back to horror when it was convenient to do so. And then it wasn't so much back to horror as it was more crime/action plus no more then a touch of horror. So I guess basically I came out a little disappointed as it turned out to not exactly be what I was expecting. Though I do like both lou Diamond Phillips and Kristy Swanson.

My Thoughts:
It has been my experience... at least until recently.... that most people would dismiss this movie for no other reason then this one does not have Michael Myers in it. I personally always enjoyed this movie... as I always watched it as a separate movie from the rest of the series. Sure it isn't the best movie I have seen... but I always found it was well worth the time put in to watch it. I do wish there was a few extras on the disc though.

My Thoughts:
This is classic '80s horror. The kind of horror I grew up with... so I definitely have a soft spot for it.This one is definitely a no-brainer popcorn type movie... just a sit back... relax and get lost in the nonsense. Even though I would say this one is basically a low budget horror... I would also say it is at the high end of low budget horrors... if that makes any sense to you.  While watching it you don't feel low-budget coming from it... decent effects... including some pretty cool looking demons.  Not to mention it is perfect for this time of the year since it takes place during Halloween. Was definitely worth the 90min I put into the movie.

The Creature from the Black Lagoon

This is a real classic which has aged surprisingly well. Barring a few obvious rear projection shots even the technical side of the movie stands up, with the underwater filming being especially impressive (if rather well lit for realism...) - in fact the brilliant use of the underwater filming angles is not only technically impressive it's immensely effective at building the tension especially in the early part of the movie. The plot is pleasantly low key compared to many 'monster movies' of the period (though of course the premise that the creature would find the female lead attractive is totally illogical and as likely as her finding the creature as good looking!), the characters and the creature all have actual personalities to some extent and the creature itself is, of course, an iconic and brilliantly rendered design. It's a must see not only for all fans of classic horror but for any fan of the movies at all.

Near Dark

A mid-80s re-invention (nowadays it would probably called a re-boot) of the vampire genre this movie appeared at the same time as The Lost Boys but lost out in the battle at the cinema, probably due to the tiny advertising budget of the beleaguered owning company, though since then it's built a worthy cult following and respect. This movie mostly eschews the more light hearted elements of its rival and, as the title implies, keeps the tone dark throughout with the vampires (though they're never called that) portrayed as amoral and brutal, made that way by years and even centuries of practically daily murder just to survive. The central plot of the recently 'turned' lead fighting against the need to kill and feed yet at the same time trying to fit in with his new 'extended family' of blood-drinkers (before they kill him for not doing so) including the girl who turned him (with whom there is an obvious mutual attraction), works well as a device to hang all the rest of the elements of the movie onto, though the ending is a little too convenient for many viewers and doesn't really stand up to the scrutiny that you'd like it to. However, it's the tone and style that keep you coming back for more with a generally great cast, especially Lance Henricksen, Bill Paxton and Jeanette Goldstein reunited from the previous year's Aliens by James Cameron's then-future, now ex, wife, Kathryn Bigelow (now famed as the first woman ever to win a Director's Oscar for 2009's The Hurt Locker) who all seem to have great fun playing the bad guys and the excellent direction and now-copied stylistic flourishes, as you'd expect from Bigelow. As a movie that changed the whole vampire genre from the staginess and often almost camp style of Hammer's movies of the 60s and 70s and brought it into a new era, giving it a whole new lease of life, this is a 'cult' film that deserves to be seen by a much wider audience and one that every vampire movie fan should see.
