| Posted: | | | | Quoting Kathy: Quote: I’m not quite sure how to respond to such mean spirited comments but I’ll try.
I own a lot of DVDs. I do not smoke, drink, gamble, or do drugs - movies are my entertainment. I also watch minimal television – there are many days it does not even get turned on unless I want to watch DVDs. I am not married or have a child which also allows me to “waste” my money the way I want to. Contest? No – my DVDs are a hobby.
As far as actually viewing every movie, you are correct; I haven’t seen every movie in my collection. So what? The main reason I haven’t watched everything is my mother and a few friends decided to give or sell me their movies. Since this was over 500 DVDs my list of movies I haven’t seen has grown immensely. I hope to see every one, but if not, I have the room and I get a kick out of being my own video store.
As far as your comments regarding getting a @#* life – I have one thank you. I am a critical care registered nurse who has worked three 12 hour shifts for more than a decade; this has allowed me to have four days off every week. Of this time I donate one day a week to the local SPCA. I also donate time to the local VA Hospital and several nursing homes. I also bought a historic house in my neighborhood that had fallen into disrepair – I’ve done all the remodeling myself and presently live there. I am also finishing up my master’s degrees this year. I could go on but I think you get my point.
DVDP is a great place to keep track of and organize my movies. IMHO forums should be used to share the enjoyment of movies; a resource for those that love DVDs. I have enjoyed many forum comments, suggestions, and assistance. I enjoy teasing or joking around but your comments were neither; I wanted to let you know how insulting I found your comments to be. Don't let yourself be bothered by such a mean spirit. I find it nice that you have a hobby that fulfills you. (At least I hope it does). I have the same hobby. I only have 840 titles or so but I was up to 982 and needed money so I sold everything but 350. I built my collection back from 350 to 850 in less than a year. I know that some people find it strange what we do for fun, but his comment's are just mean. I think he should be banned for those. BTW: I find it great that you have other hobbies besides collecting DVD's. So once again, don't let yourself be bothered by people who are just jealous. | | | Check out my Youtube channel under https://www.youtube.com/user/alittleolder |

As you mentioned, most people would say that you are a "crazy addict "for having over a 1000 DVDs. You should quit criticizing others until you examine yourself carefully. Forget him, He's just looking for a fight. Don't give him the opportunity. Just ignore such comments. | | | Check out my Youtube channel under https://www.youtube.com/user/alittleolder |

| Posted: | | | | I hit the big 3,000 last month. As of today I have 3,022. That is counting box sets as 1 bought item. Not counting the discs or movies in the set. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | It's been awhile since I visited this forum and I see a lot of collections have grown significantly. I don't have as many as some and more than others but I have to admit sometimes I like adding to the "numbers". I keep replacing my collection of DVD's with Blu-Ray versions so I'm kinda stalling in my count.
My goal has always been to own the highest quality and most accurate version of each of the movies I own (or the only one available) from every genre and time period. What ever the desire is I don't think it's fair to come on this forum and bash others for their collections. A critical debate is one thing but to insult others based only on narrow minded opinions is nonproductive and childish.
Congratulations on everyone's collection that brings them happiness, no matter the size. (there's a joke here but I'm not gonna use it) |

| Posted: | | | | The way I count my collection is box sets count as 1 and I'm at over 2500. If I counted every movie in the box sets I would be over 3k and I consider this a hobby even thou some of my Kids think I'm crazy, But being widowed and retired and my kids are grown and out of the house I'm doing no harm to anyone. |
