Hi Guys,

Stupid question time. Regarding 'headshots' is this where when you highlight an actor > cast > where it says drag image here, is this what headshots fills in?

Also I noticed 'Doug' has several files, where do you copy the files to & un-zip?

Thanks & Take Care
Rico

I can see there is some confusion here - so read this it will explain how to run the batch import.

(with thanks to Caranthir who was the star..)

I've been adding headshots as well, and wondered if it was worth it to try and get all the collective work together in one place.  Apparently, I am not the only one that has been putting more than a little time into this.

I've setup an email address that anyone can send their headshot backup file to.  I am willing to combine all the submissions into one backup file.  Maybe we can post it on the DVD Profiler Resource Centre webpage.  Would this be possible DVDDoug?  (If you miss this post, I'll PM you later...)

Please DO NOT send a full backup of your collection to the email address!  If you want to contribute your work to the effort:

1. Perform a headshots only backup:
    File | Backup Database
Uncheck everything except "Include Cast/Crew Databases, With Photos"
Name the backup file with your DVDP ID so I can keep track of who has contributed (Mine would be Juoquim.dpb)
2. Email the database backup to dvdprofilerheadshots@hotmail.com

Once I have the initial wave of backup file submissions combined, I'll send it out to those that have contributed.  I will either email the combined backup so we can see where we stand, or I will send it to whoever will host the file for downloads.  If we do not find a pace to host it, I will post when we are ready to take requests for an email copy of the backup file.

I will check this address every day for a while, and back off to checking a time or 2 a week after the submissions begin to dwindle.

You can use this email address to point out errors as well.  If there is an image assigned to the wrong person, please send their name and attach a correct headshot.  If there is more than one entry in the database for a person, indicate the parsing (Jennifer/Jason/Leigh - Jennifer/ /Jason Leigh - etc.) as it is in the database.

I guess that's about all for now.  Get those backup files sent in so we can get them combined!

we already have a set of headshot files for download. The current total is approx 9,000 headshots.

See here for the program which uses these files.

Just a point of clarification, when I mentioned getting all the collective work together, I did not mean to discount the work already done on the headshots collection.  If anyone took that meaning from my post, I apologize.  Thanks very much to MadAcid and the others that worked on the collection!

The collective work I am talking about is getting those headshots and the missing ones that people have found put into DVD Profiler.  Unfortunately, it is not as easy to import the files into DVD Profiler as with Tom's Cast & Crew Viewer.  You can't just copy the files into a headshots directory, you have to import an image separately for each cast & crew member. With a collective backup file, it would not take 4 days to import the headshots as gardibolt mentioned.  Restoring a cast & crew backup file would takes a little less than a minute.

I first imported the headshot collection using HeadsImport.exe (it ran for several days over a holiday weekend) and have since been looking for more headshots as I've had time.  I have already added several hundred that were not in the headshots collection.  Since I have already done this work, I am willing to make the backup file available to others because I think most users would like to just have to do a restore for a minute or so rather than wait 4 days for the headshot collection to finish importing.  Along that same line, I figured there were others out there that have searched for other missing headshots and would like to contribute that to the final backup file.

The offer is still out there: if you have imported headshots into DVDP, take a cast&crew only backup and email it to: DVDProfilerHeadshots@hotmail.com.  I'll see about getting the final backup file posted with the Headshots collection, or at the very least email it to those that have contributed and those that request a copy of it.

While the headshots in that file are numerous, they're pretty much all current actors; anyone from the 1980s and earlier isn't in there.  So more work definitely needs to be done.

I think that this is also a great idea.
But, do you know what you are getting yourself into, you will have to visual verify all of the duplicates each time you add a set from each of our backups so that only the clear and tasteful images will be in the "master" collection.

My head shots might not be tasteful for everyone, I try to use the best cleavage shot for my actresses

Juoquim's idea sounds great. I just tested how that works between my main database and test database. There is an excellent feature which gives you the opportunity to choose if you want to keep the current photo or replace it with the one from the backup file. That might take a long time, but perhaps not as long as using Caranthir's nice little application.

Most of my headshots come from the collection in Doug's website and they are imported in DVDP with Caranthir's application. However, I have replaced some of them with better ones. Some of the headshots are also in higher resolution. I would be happy to contribute my cast/crew backup file for this project. The question, however is, how big attachment files you can send to hotmail? My backup file is 15 MB. Of course I can save it to my own web site and only provide a download link.

Yeah, I know it could take a while to do a compare, but I have found that it can be a quick decision in most cases - just take the one that looks the best.  I also integrate the backup files in 2 steps.:
Step 1 - Restore with the 'Keep existing Pictures' option checked.
Step 2 - Restore with 'let me choose' option checked and do a visual comparison.

Besides - I may want most of your cleavage shots for my own copy - even if they may not make the final master!!  :D

I can't find the documented limit for this account.  (I think it might be 20mb).  I am in the process of testing it.  In the meantime, if you would like to put it on your website and send me a link, I could download it and get started on integrating yours.

Yeah, it looks like 10mb is the limit.  If your backups are less than 10 mb, send them on in.  (There's 2gb space on this account.)  For the rest, we will either need someone to temporarily host the files, or I will try to find an account with larger attachment limits.
