I have tried Safari, and I just still like the way Firefox handles bookmarks, and I have not found anything to duplicate  the way either Firefox, or maybe it is a plug-in that allows me to see the most recent downloads on my bottom tool bar.

Of course your mileage may vary...

why change from Firefox?

Firefox's memory consumption

You gotta be kidding?  On discs that are now commonly 250-500 gigabytes?

I'm a through-and-through macophile and I can't stand Safari. I've used Firefox since I first started using OS X and now I use it on my Windows machines, as well.

I'm with you Bluefox.  I use Firefox on my Macs and PCs - rarely have any issues with it.  Safari is good - but there are always the poorly programmed sites that are incompatible with it ( I said I was a MACophile! ) - even when using the MAC versions... It just became a pain for me to have to keep switching browsers to get things done.  Firefox is really nice IMHO...
Of course if all you can use on an iphone is safari - I might have to be tempted back, that thing is just way too nice!

I've read several articles in the tech web journals today on Safari.  Even the MACers are not impressed, and many are reporting its a real dog.

Memory, not disc space Of course, 1MB chips (and then get two) are not expensive anymore either...

to pour some gasoline on a heated discussion:

Use Opera! It has everything Firefox has, only earlier and better because the Mozilla-Developers are poor copiers!

Opera is just like Linux.

You install it, fire it up... then think "so what"? ....

.... And go back to your trusty previous solution.

Tried Opera once, early on.  Wasn't impressed.  Better than IE, but not by much.  Firefox is way ahead in my opinion.  I particularly like the plug-in that lets me switch the rendering engine so that it appears to be running IE, but is still Firefox.

How can they be ahead, if they simply take everything Opera invented? Tabbed browsing, mouse gestures for example.
Okay, there isn't an IEtab, but honestly I have no need for it, if a page really doesn't work in Opera and Firefox (yes, I have him as backup) it's not worth looking at. And that's includes Microsoft, although I'm not sure where the IE would really be needed. Back in the days they really laid stones in the way of non-IE-users with absolutely crappy CSS-files e.g. but today?
The only thing I miss at the moment would be a spellchecker, but no other Opera-user seem to need one and will write the widget    (Operas name for 'Plugin')
