| Posted: | | | | Kane in number one for me. It has been for years.
I remember seeing it in American History class in ninth grade. I was the only one in class who thought it was great - all the other kids thought it was stupid and boring. But I was enthralled.
Funny thing is a month or so before that we saw Gone with the Wind, and I was about the only kid who hated that movie.
Now don't get me wrong. As a film aficionado I can appreciate GWTW. I just don't like it. |

| Posted: | | | | I have 64 of the old list and 65 of the new. Some in; some out. It's cool to hate Titanic, but it really defined the year when it came out. In terms of a box office phenomenon, it's noteworthy. I don't believe it's better than any of the films that were removed, but it's just a measure of the times. I'm happy to see Vertigo climb. Anyone having trouble with Citizen Kane would do well to listen to Ebert's commentary. It really opened my eyes to a lot that I missed as a casual viewer. I think DVD is responsible for some of these films popping up on the list that weren't there 10 years ago. Sunrise! | | | ...James

I'm looking over my notes as I comprise my list of AFI's in my library and I have noticed with Titanic that it has garnered AFI votes with :100 Movie quotes; 100 movie songs;100 passions;100 thrills; and now today it has also hit the AFI greatest list So love it or hate you can't deny these facts .. | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. | Posted: | | | | Wow my taste must be terrible, only have like 16 out of that list. The thing is it should only be 15 out of that list I have. Because Gone With The Wind was a gift and would have never bought it. Just don't like it. | | | Sometimes you are the bowling ball, sometimes you are the pins. |

| Posted: | | | | AFI also put up this cool interactive website for the new Top 100 American films http://connect.afi.com/site/PageServer?pagename=micro_take_tour It's a great list and probably every movie on it deserves to be there. But of course it is limited to American films, none of the great classic foreign movies are on the list: Seven Samurai, Wages of Fear, Tokyo Story, Ugetsu, Children of Paradise, Cimema Paradiso, Amelie, grave of the Fireflies ........ the list goes on |

| Posted: | | | | I'll admit that I like Titanic (both the 97 version and the 53 version). It's not even close to being one of my favorites, but I own it and enjoy it. I'll even say I liked the 97 version more than the 53 version. It's not so much the story (which I find mediocre), but I do think the technical aspects of the sinking are fascinating. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. | Posted: | | | | I reckon it's a pretty spot on list. Fully agree with Citizen Kane; I'd seen it and liked it years ago, then ended up having to watch it three times in a week for a film studies course. It's the only film I can think of that actually got better with each of those viewings. The lecturer also made us watch My Beautiful Laundrette three times. Quote: I watched the show last night, it was interesting to hear actor's commentary on which movies were inspirational or why they loved them. I wonder how the list was formulated - does anyone know who is involved in the voting process? I'm also curious to what the original list of top 100 movies were - does anyone have that list? I own quite a few of the movies that made the list and will be adding more to my collection - as if I needed an excuse to buy more movies!
all the info is here at this site.., in order to download the list to adobe you have to log in, but I believe you can view them on line. Thank you! It site looks interesting - I'm still waiting for my e-maiil to allow me to log in. |

It's not so much the story (which I find mediocre), but I do think the technical aspects of the sinking are fascinating. Exactly. Say what you want to about the romantic storyline. Almost anything would've worked in either version. The 97 version is the first one of all the Titanic movies that accurately shows how the ship sank, as proven by Robert Ballard in his dives on the actual wreck and analysis of the wreckage. But the thing that sets both apart and why they are on the list is the stark terror of knowing you're going to die, and still fighting to the very end to stay alive. Whether you're watching Clifton Webb or Leonardo it's the stuff of superb movie-making. | | | John
