Great contribution to the discussion... It was, because you have a tendency to bloviate. You are entitled to your opinion, of course, even if it IS wrong! | | | John

Skip I thought you were the definition? Come on now, it was a joke based off of your tagline. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand. The Centauri learned this lesson once. We will teach it to them again. Though it take a thousand years, we will be free. - Citizen G'Kar |

bloviate - to speak pompously (source: Dictionary.com Unabridged) bloviate - To discourse at length in a pompous or boastful manner (source: American Heritage Dictionary) bloviate - orate verbosely and windily (source: WordNet) -- this one is my personal favorite

| Posted: | | | | Give me a break Jon. This thread was over long before I blah, blah, blahed . All this discussion concerning "credited as" is pointless. There have been countless threads concerning this issue and what have they solved? Nothing. Ken is working on a solution to the fiasco that it's become. Until he unvails his solution to the common name/credited as problem, IMHO, anything we do should be kept local in order to minimize the database cleanup that will undoubtably be needed once the common name solution is revealed. I apologize if I contributed to the demise of your thread...but he started it | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |

I see more and more users making absolutely valid use of it (I see "common" names updates almost every day), and despite the fact that I agree that some we could use some more guidance from Invelos, the feature already works wonders. The wonderful NameVariants-plugin is a great help with this, too. I'm pretty sure Ken won't be fooled by a few of the more vocal users who keep shouting that we shouldn't use it - its obvious that for a huge majority of the (mostly silent) userbase, this feature finally makes the data in DVD Profiler actually USABLE. |

Come on now, it was a joke based off of your tagline. When I wrote that, I wasn't thinking of Skip's tagline. I was thinking about what Bill O'Reilly would be telling Surfuer. | | | John

Just because a lot of people are using it, doesn't mean it works right. It just means that a lot of people don't have the sense God gave little green peas. Most of the common name updates I see have little or no legitimate documentation, or aren't needed in the first place. I still haven't seen any ruling from Ken on who decides what the common name is. Until that happens, ANY use of common name is based on personal preference, and that's why we shouldn't be using it. It hasn't got anything to do with a few "vocal" users. But, those of us who can see farther than the end of our own noses can see the absolute mess current use is making of things, and the longer it goes on the worse it will be to fix when Ken figures out how to make it work right. | | | John
