Hello, I found this site on Download.com (cnet) as I was looking for a program similar to the one I use for my music, but for my DVDs. DVD Profiler was at the top of the list.

There were three reviews, two which only list pros, then one which seems to be a lenghty attack:

Only three reviews sounded too few from my memory, so I had a look. If you just above the reviews, there is an option to see reviews for all versions (versions 3 upwards are only minor enhancements of version 3) - that should give you 13 reviews for a bit more information.

The only way that one can produce a program or anything that relies on user input and doesn't not have ambiguities is not to allow that data to be imputed. What would be left of the DVD Profiler we have come to cheerish? I can not think of any type of profiler data input that has not been questioned at one time or another.

I don't find the profile contribution process a problem, time consuming, yes. Unless, correcting a profile, I try to submit as complete a profile as I can. No votes, yes I have got them. I check the point of contention, if I have question, I PM them for clarification. I change if I think I was wrong if not I don't.

The last time I had a contribution refused was a test case on cover scans, I submitted a cover scan that fit  the 50x700 box and was already in the data base that I had received, and had a much better scan up for voter,, and primarily to see what happens to the images, how they are changed. I had all expectations that it would refused. Funny there was 5 yes votes and 1 no votes and after the no vote many of the yes votes changed to no votes. Since then Ken has changed ther processing of cover scans.
We don't need stinkin' IMDB's errors, we make our own.

Thanks for all your replies, most were helpful.

I deceided to try out the program (not buy it yet), Several of my DVDs were not in the database, I wonder if any of that is due to the stuff talked about in the negative review.

I have to admit I'm kind of scared to enter the info and contribute it myself. I did have a look at the contribution forums and there are quite a lot of threads in there where the anger is really flying around. I think I know who the "one person in particular" is.

I'll be playing around with it for the next few days. Thanks again!

instead of entering the dvd's by ean you could try enter them by title. Change this option Region to include tick all boxes. (menu, tools, options) (more titles aivalable this way)
Possible you find your titles this way and only have to make small changes to that profile (location, ean, region, language, ...)
Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted. Please include the sources for your changes in the contribution notes, especially for cast and crew additions.

The worst you have to be afraid of are no votes and rejected contributions, neither hurts you the slightest as long as you do not take it personal (which you certainly shouldn't). No one forces you to discuss in the forum - just do your best with the contribution and leave it at that if you prefer. I would recommend checking the comments from the reviewer if your contribution is rejected though - it might be something simple you can easily fix for future contributions (like missing information on where you get data from, a wrong value in a specific field, etc).
Regards
Lars
