| Posted: | | | | The 3 most obscure of Rander's collection for me are: Pusher Secretary Super Size Me
The most mainstream: Terminator 2 (Judgement Day) Independence Day The Day After Tomorrow
The most overrated: Terminator 3 Independence Day Saturday Night Fever
EDIT: Sorry, got the premise wrong, that it had to the movies from the poster above me. Changed that now | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

3 Most Mainstream (even if I hate mainstream cinema, I own some...) : Saw (three firsts) Matrix (trilogy) The Lord of the Rings (trilogy)
3 Most overrated (I don't really own overrated movies, but if I have to choose...) : Death Proof (2007, Quentin Tarantino) Beatrice Cenci (1969, Lucio Fulci) (some say Fulci's Masterpiece...) Mad Max (1979, George Miller) (not really overrrated, but is actually the most overrated of my perfect collection...) | | | arcade games database. |

| Posted: | | | | In the interests of keeping the thread going (and getting another opinion on my collection)
For goblinsdoitall A challenging collection, not just because of the non-English titles, but also some blank profiles 3 Most Obscure Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (was it just me, or was the plot for this rather flimsy?) Jabberwocky Wolfsheim (any info on this?)
3 Most Mainstream E.T. Harry Potter und der Stein der Weisen [Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone] Fluch der Karibik [Pirates of the Caribbean] (great mainstream fun)
3 Most overrated American History X (I kept feeling like it was trying to be a US Romper Stomper and also trying to hard to be 'hard') Der Pate [The Godfather] (I can't see why this is considered 'brilliant' and not just good) Reservoir Dogs (Clever, but not unique. Imho, not the great piece of work the fanboys claim)
**Glad to see In China essen sie Hunde in your collection. It's one of my favourite movies!** --- For ya_shin 3 Most Obscure Clockwise (I didn't even know that this had a legit release) The Fearless Vampire Killers or: Pardon Me, But Your Teeth Are in My Neck Nick Frost's Danger 50,000 volts
3 Most Mainstream The Matrix (still love it) The Simpsons (and the creators know it, embrace it, love it!) Ocean's Eleven
3 Most overrated Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence (pretentious. Although visually great, not great in itself. Toppled Akira out of this list) The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (I'm sick of every time "Aussie cinema" is talked about in the media, this and The Castle are considered great) King Kong (2005) (It's a gorilla, not a human, so don't give it human emotions! 1933 for me please).
I must say, a varied collection. I struggled to get the mainstream list finalised. Glad to see Black Mask making TWO appearances in your collection. Check out the remastered version, it's gorgeous! I left 2001: A Space Odyssey alone, because it's already been picked on. Amélie from Montmartre survived because I spotted it too late. | | | Adelaide Movie Buffs (info on special screenings, contests, bargains, etc. relevant to Adelaideans... and contests/bargains for other Aussies too!) | | | Last edited: by W0m6at |

Quote: The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (I'm sick of every time "Aussie cinema" is talked about in the media, this and The Castle are considered great) Almost agreed; I just have a good time watching it... Quote: King Kong (2005) (It's a gorilla, not a human, so don't give it human emotions! 1933 for me please). Same here, 19933 all the way (yes, I know I own 2005 twice...). Quote: Glad to see Black Mask making TWO appearances in your collection. Check out the remastered version, it's gorgeous! Well, the Artisan version has no original language track, so except for the Special Features the disc stays unwatched. Well, o.k., the Taiwan version also has no original language track, but at least it's Chinese Where do I get that remastered version...? Is it uncut? I know this movie is very hard to come by in its complete version and I understand the Taiwan version is the closest so far. | | | Achim [諾亞信; Ya-Shin//Nuo], a German in Taiwan. Although it's original language, I don't think it's uncut (I'm not sure any versions are), but the picture quality surpasses any I've seen of this movie, and it's a decent runtime. This appears to be the standalone version. You might also find the comparison at DVD Compare useful. Unfortunately this is one of those movies that you can spend forever compromising on, because no version is ideal. | | | Adelaide Movie Buffs (info on special screenings, contests, bargains, etc. relevant to Adelaideans... and contests/bargains for other Aussies too!) |

| Posted: | | | | from W0m6at's collection: 3 Most ObscureTISM - The White Album - I remember crowd surfing at one of their gigs in Adelaide years ago Red Dwarf - Well known by some, understood by few, completely lost on the most Machinist - very strange movie, but great Death to Smoochy - hilarious little movie! Flash Gordon - For it's time some great effects, and some of the worst .. I know a little beyond 3, but all worth mentioning 3 Most MainstreamInterview with the Vampire Pirates of the Caribbean - is there anyone that doesn't have this in their collection? The Matrix - ditto to the above, although Matrix 2 was still good, I think the final one lost something ... and ... It's a wonderful life - simply because it appears in so many other movies! 3 Most overratedAli G In Da House - after a while, his jokes are all the same 12 Monkeys - Interesting, but not as great as everyone says Chronicles of Riddick - Pitch Black - too bad the lights weren't out for longer 3 Most underratedButterfly Effect - great movie, very surprising Memento - left the movies with a major headache after seeing this, and still interesting to watch Batman Returns - Probably the best of all the batman movies, kept the true darkness of batman Fairly varied little collection, noticed that Black Mask made 3 appearances in there! Cheers Tom |

This appears to be the standalone version. Thanks for the info! According DVDCompare the Taiwan version seems most complete, although it has neither original audio nor a decent video quality The Hong Kong version appears to have some violence cut (one of the reasons that make this film so interesting ) which is in tact in the US release, yet the US release sadly lacks original audio Like you say, probably have to compromise which whatever version one buys... I think I'll look at the version you bought when I am in Hong Kong in early March. One of the higher priorities in this case for me is the audio... | | | Achim [諾亞信; Ya-Shin//Nuo], a German in Taiwan. Registered: May 29, 2000 (at InterVocative) |

| Posted: | | | | TommyG's collection:
Obscure For this category I was a little unsure of how to judge it. On the one hand you could go with "obcure" as in not well-known, on the other you could go with the "hard to grasp" definition. I figured I'd include both interpretations of the term in this list:
Churchill: The Hollywood Years - Never heard of it... The Dragon Lord - Never heard of it... Prime - Heard of it, even have it in my collection, but it's hard to wrap your head around on a first viewing.
Mainstream I don't think this list requires any further explanation...
Shrek Titanic xXx
Overrated While all three of these movies are decent, they are far from being as great as their reputation would indicate. I guess maybe Shakespeare in Love has fallen from grace a little, but the simple fact that it won the Oscar for Best Picture the year that Saving Private Ryan was nominated guarantees it a spot in this list.
A History of Violence Shakespeare in Love My Big Fat Greek Wedding
Underrated In this list I included one movie which I feel is disliked more than it deserves (Alien 3) and two excellent movies I feel are not well-known enough.
Alien 3 Frailty The Quiet American
And there you have it. Oh, and one surprising thing I learned when going over TommyG's collection: Apparently they re-title some American movies for release in Australia. And maybe other English speaking nations too? Examples include 13 Going on 30 having been changed to Suddenly 30 and The Rundown having been changed to Welcome to the Jungle. There were others as well, but their titles escape me at the moment.
