| Posted: | | | | I used to buy a lot fo movies on VHS, up until about 1997. Once I got a DVD player, Ithink I barely watched them even if I hadn't replaced them yet, and the VCR got moved to a TV in another room. Not soon after, I sold them off at garage sales. I have 2 VHS tapes left that I've been meaning to burn to DVD-R...one was Billy Joel music videos, and the other was the original TV version of the Babylon 5 pilot episode. |

| Posted: | | | | I still have hundreds of VHS tapes, but most of them were recorded from TV. I'm weeding them out very slowly, transferring to DVD when necessary. |

| Posted: | | | | I remember lugging my first huge bulkly VHS player from Tottenham Court Road in London to my house some 100 miles away. To be honest I soon lost interest - the picture quality was never great, sound quality had much to be desired, so I think I only ever actually bought around 100 tapes. I still keep a couple for display case purposes - but most are long gone. DVDs on the other hand were/are great! The difference between DVD and tape is HUGE. Unlike many in these forums - I don't really think the same is true of HD-DVD/BluRAy and DVD with a good doubler. Obviously there IS a difference - but it really isn't as huge as the marketing folks would like you to belive - ( I'll stress IMHO!! And of course I'll be jumping onto the winning format soon which looks like it'll be blu-Ray ) |

| Posted: | | | | I never did collect vhs tapes (only to tape something from tv). I started collecting with Laserdiscs. Frst with Dutch releases, but Laserdisc was never a big sucses and the quality was poor. So i found a store that imported US laserdiscs and that was i using untill dvd showed up... | | | Registered: July 7 2000 |

| Posted: | | | | I had started a VHS collection in the late 80s but then bought a public domain title of "Metropolis" that had a title card totally out of focus and most of the film was so soft that I gave up in disgust. It was then that the friendly Manager of the Suncoast Pictures outlet where I bought the tape put me on to Laserdisc. After some research and demos at a "LaserLand" in suburban Philly, PA I was hooked (from 1991 to 1999) at which point I sold my LD collection to a collector in the Pacific Northwest to then concentrate on DVD. I'm about to purchase a Blu-Ray unit after loving my Tosh A35 from this past fall. Sigh! It never ends... |

| Posted: | | | | Quoting Rage-2005: Quote: This may seem as a strange question.. But I was just wondering if any of you were VHS addicts before turning to DVD's, and do you still own any of them? My pre-recorded VHS collection was very small actually, I never really got the whole VHS addiction at all (though I had started buying the Buffy sets... which came out 6 months before the DVD set for the same season!). I got rid of almost all of them when my DVD addiction took hold but there are a few that aren't available on DVD yet (usually small produciton run titles about WW2 tanks etc.) and I keep those until the DVD is out or I can copy them onto DVD-R. | | | It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong |

| Posted: | | | | I just bought a number of VHS tapes; since Tim Lucas' mammoth biography of Mario Bava came out, I've been on a project to watch all his movies or movies that he participated in, and there are about half a dozen that still haven't been released on DVD in any country, but did come out on VHS. That would include the English language BLACK SABBATH (I know, it's a better movie in the Italian version but it's not the same without Boris Karloff's voice) and the US cut of DR GOLDFOOT AND THE GIRL BOMBS (which has less Franco & Ciccio and more Laura Antonelli, both of which are good things), as well as CONQUEST OF THE NORMANS and some other oddball titles. I transferred them to DVD-R immediately, though, since I can't stand the idea of watching a videotape. It did feel weird to be handling these things again. | | | "This movie has warped my fragile little mind." |

| Posted: | | | | I still have about 300 VHS tapes, mostly all are movies which are not yet available on DVD in any region...yet. A few are available on DVD, but they are rare instances where I actually prefer the VHS edition. i.e. The Lawnmower Man (uncut on VHS), and Witchery (Shriek Show messed up the aspect ratio big time on the DVD). gardibolt mentioned the English version of Black Sabbath, which is another that I will gladly keep on VHS, since it's an alternate version and alternate language of the film. If I was to count my pre-recorded VHS collection, it would be about an equal number (250). A good friend of mine literally has about 15,000 tapes that take up his entire basement! | | | Corey |

| Posted: | | | | I never collected VHS. We had maybe 20 pre-recorded. Never did laserdiscs either. My obsession started with DVD. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection. |

| Posted: | | | | Before the addiction of DVD's I collected VHS tapes since the early 80th. I had about 500 tapes, mostly recorded films and series from (Pay-) TV. But after years of storing, the quality derceased rapidly. Some tapes from the early years did only contain snow and whooshing. I think this was a kind of "self erasing- effect". So I had to throw away about 95% of my entire collection | | | Thorsten |
