I'm certainly no fan of socialism, but I think folks in the Scandinavian countries would beg to differ about it being a viable system of government. Those countries keep making the top of the annual UN list of the best countries to live and they're pretty good at electing socialist governments. That aside, I'd also say that just because someone prefers a democrat in the White House they're not necessarily a socialist. In Sweden what's considered right-wing is still further left than most democrats. I will add my admiration to Kemper's. This thread had the potential to go bad, and I almost didn't participate because of that. But, after reading through it, I decided to jump in because I was pleasantly surprised. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand. The Centauri learned this lesson once. I've no idea where you got the idea that socialism doesn't work as a political system. |
