Socialism has been proven to not be a viable system of government, everywhere it has been tried

Hmm. I don't know about that. I'm certainly no fan of socialism, but I think folks in the Scandinavian countries would beg to differ about it being a viable system of government. Those countries keep making the top of the annual UN list of the best countries to live and they're pretty good at electing socialist governments.

That aside, I'd also say that just because someone prefers a democrat in the White House they're not necessarily a socialist. In Sweden what's considered right-wing is still further left than most democrats.

No surprise for me either:

Fred Thompson (R)
Rudy Giuliani (R)
Mitt Romney (R)
John McCain (R)
Mike Huckabee (R)
Hillary Clinton (D)
Barack Obama (D)
John Edwards (D)

I will add my admiration to Kemper's.  This thread had the potential to go bad, and I almost didn't participate because of that.  But, after reading through it, I decided to jump in because I was pleasantly surprised.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

Got to agree with Astrakan on that one! I've no idea where you got the idea that socialism doesn't work as a political system.

They were all pretty close. It was a tough race, but it has a lot more emotion this way...
With every passing hour our solar system comes forty-three thousand miles closer to globular cluster M13 in the constellation Hercules, and still there are some misfits who continue to insist that there is no such thing as progress.
