| Posted: | | | | Techie-wise: I've upgraded many dvd's just for a dts track. Picture and soundtrack are defininitly key things for me.
Movie-wise: This is different strokes for different folks area. What I like might not be what you like but I bought it anyway.
Extra-wise: This was tough...Some special editions are worth it extra wise. Some I wonder why they even bothered to call it a special edition in the first place.
Package-wise: I like some of the DVD exlusives, But the majority are hit and miss. The Steel Book thing Is killing me. I want all of them but I refuse to double dip for a package and the same extras.
Other-wise: Will only buy OAR as the Director's and the producers intended. I have no problem with the 101 Dalmatians platinum edition release. | | | The artist formerly known as TylerDurden_73 |

Quote: I'd rank them as: 1. The movie always comes first, provided it's uncut and uncensored, and in OAR and OST. 3. Important, but I'll take what I can get. 2. Depending on the extras offered and the quality/interest of the movie. 5. The price factor. 4. I don't care for fancy packaging or plastic toys, I don't have space for them anyway. That said, I certainly appreciate a nice cover design without disturbing spelling mistakes, quotes and ratings. This covers my priority settings as well And mine too. | | | Martin Zuidervliet

| Posted: | | | | I grew up on musicals and westerns, and so I tend to collect them and some are not the greatest. With Musicals it's music, not the plot. Who couldn't fall for Doris Day, Jane Powell, Ann Miller, Cyd Charisse, etc. Later it was Star Trek, thus Sci-Fi. and James Bond. In the early '60's I was introduced to Ian Fleming by my SCCA rally navigator, a F86 pilot & jungle survival expert at the Air University, Maxwell AFB, Alabama. Lately it's mysteries, since I've read 100's of the novels they are based on. The I like collecting the sets, collection and TV shows I like and didn't get to see when they were first released. The rest of the genres, I pretty perticual although alas, I do get some dogs in the sets, like Superman IV, etc. Then when DVDs came about, I had to try films from other countries. | | | We don't need stinkin' IMDB's errors, we make our own. | Posted: | | | | Quoting widescreenforever: Quote: I'm wondering if the number 1 position listed is worded the best it could be ., The poll so far is 6 to 1 in favour of the movie over number three which states Best possible picture and sound quality is essential. I voted for the third choice as I am always on the lookout for a better picture ( anamorphic) and sound (5.1/DTS over Dolby surround ) any day .. Hands down. I must have gone thru two dozen titles so far when it comes to flipping and selling Older versions to Newer Collectors editions.
Can you say '2001 A Space Odyssey' ? I have updated this title at least 8 times in 25 years .. (three times on DVD ) Hopefully I'm finished . But you wouldn't have done it if it was a crap movie. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 |

| Posted: | | | | The movie has to come first, but if I think there will be a blu-ray version coming, I'll wait. I love hi-def and extras. Not commentary, but featurettes, bloopers, deleted scenes, interviews, galleries, DTS, THX and trailers of any kind. MWR | | | Marty - Registered July 10, 2004, User since 2002. |

| Posted: | | | | all of the above for the most part - extras only when considering a double dip of a high ranking movie for me
movie/show comes first obviously... if the movie is good enough i'll deal with lack of the other things - but some movies that are just average can win me over with packaging or tech - i dont really watch too many extras - i dont have enough time for the movies themselves - let alone the extras | | | -JoN |

| Posted: | | | | For me - it all depends on the movie. Usually, though, it's because I find it somewhere (new or used) for a good price. I may be short on funds one month, so I'll just buy the single disk version of a movie, but then a few months down the line, I'll find the two disk version at a good price, so I'll buy that - and now I have two versions of the same movie. Then they'll release the Director's Cut or Extended Version, and I'll have to go out and get that too. (Are they ever going to stop coming out with slightly different versions of Alexander, or Bladerunner?) Sometimes I'll buy a movie because of special features. Sometimes because it has 5.1 surround sound. Sometimes just because I find a dvd at a garage sale for a quarter and figure - why not.

After my AA meeting, I need to stop by the AAA office to pick up those maps for my next trip, then later this evening is the annual banquet for the AAAAA (American Association Against Acronym Abuse).... We admitted we were powerless over DVD colllecting — that our lives had become unmanageable. It is really a 12 chapter program published in a box set with a slip case cover. When you complete step 12 you are given your Easter Egg chip. Just be careful they republish the manual with extended steps, and a cleaned up clearer instructions every few years.
