Theoretically every dollar invested in a remake of a story already told is a dollar NOT invested in a new story never told before. Meaning, remakes are potentially reducing the number of new stories told, and as a lover of storytelling I find that to be bad thing.
I'm not convinced it's that simple though. I'm sure studios must be making a profit on remakes, or they wouldn't be churning out so many of them. This profit can then be used to take a chance on new, unproven stories.

I've been a fan of the new "Ocean's" movies and thought I check out Sinatra's "Ocean's 11," which in my opinion is not a very good movie. Maybe I'm used to seeing Clooney and his crew and since I saw the new one first and that tainted the enjoyment of old-blue eyes, but who's to say. | | | We're on a mission from God.

so remakeing isn't always bad.
I enjoyed 'The Ring' for example, or 'the Magnificent Seven'. Some recent horror remakes were pretty good as well, 'the Texas Chainsaw Massacre' and 'the Hills Have Eyes'. I will not say they are better than the original bur they are enjoyable.
I think you should just watch the movie and judge it as the film it is, whether it's a remake or not, it can be good, and if it isn't, at least we still have the original.
