That is pretty ridiculous. We like to be different in our wonderfull Province  The majority of what I own don't have the sticker too, but since I have no intention to get separated from my collection I don't really care about this stupid law. |

Skip Never thought I'd see Skip saying something like this. My media-center PC upconverts DVDs to 1080p and does a much better job than my upconverting DVD player or HD-DVD player. Still, the upconverted DVD is not a patch on a true HD movie. You can't gain detail through upconversion. |

While I do keep the hated thing, many of the discs I own are purchased while I am out of the province or even the country. THEREFORE the ones with the dreadful stickers I sell to local used DVD dealers, the rest I share out among various family. Wow, that's totally nuts - we do have some funny laws in this country don't we? Of course, being Canadian, none of us would ever break the law, no matter how strange... Well, maybe we would, but we would feel bad about it at least. Fortunately we have no such law in British Columbia! I sell my copies to friends or family (my kids just take them for free) as a last result I trade them at Blockbuster. I have replaced quite a few DVD's as I am in a frenzy of buying BD's. I think I need help but I can't ask for it because my wife will find out and then there will be the expense of my funeral. That said, I have now decided to only replace DVD's where there are enhanced sound or video on movies I particularly like. The problem is that I like most of the movies I have purchased over the years. For example, Glory, Dances with Wolves, Gladiator, Braveheart, any Alien or Sci-Fi and it goes on from there. I will not replace "chick flicks" which I purchased for my wife even though I love her dearly. I think she was a Luddite in a past life and watches standard definition on her HDTV - I have given up trying to convert her... She does like to come up to my TV room and watch now and then, as long as I turn down the bass and leave a light on for her to crochet... My Panasonic is the same. And so is my Denon. Actually, it does a very good job upconverting to 1080P. Of course, it still can't rival "real" full-HD, but - depending on the quality of the source DVD - in some cases it does come rather close. As a consequence, I'll only replace DVDs by BR as an exception (films with scenery that really calls for full HD and/or with sound tracks that really need Hi-Def sound). | | | | Last edited: by dee1959jay |

| | Posted: | | | | I double dip on only a few titles that I consider worthwile in HD, either because of the nature of the movie (somebody mentioned Twister above) or the DVD has not-so-good video or audio.
Duplicate DVD's I give away to family, EXCEPT where the DVD has a lot of extra's and the BR is barebones or has only a few. For instance, I bought the Spider-man trilogy on BR, but movies 1 and 2 are devoid of extra's. So the 2-disc DVD releases of those movies remain in my collection.
Anyway, a BR that doesn't have the features the DVD release had is not very attractive to me. | | | Eric

Oringally I sold the old DVD versions.
