He told a different story in the ballroom during Dent's fundraiser, about how his wife's face was scarred and he scarred his to match, but she was disgusted and left him.

Thanks for that! I now do indeed remember the telling of that story. I did not hear it good though, the voices were often drowned out by either the music or other noises around me.

My wife wants to see it next weekend for the exact thing you wrote about the music drowning out some of the dialogue. We had no problem with other noises, but the theater at 11:00 was only about half full. And they had the sound set for a full house. Working for the old ABC/Plitt theater chain I can tell you that the sound level does matter with different audiences.

The Two-Face makeup probably didn't seem real precisely because it was more realistic. Hollywood usually uses make-up or prosthetics for that sort of thing, but the simple fact remains that those methods layer on top of the actual face, whereas in a real injury of that type the tissue would be removed, making it smaller.

Saw the movie couple hours of go (sadly no IMAX anywhere near me).

anyway hear are some initial thoughts,

Heath Ledger is the best on screen joker bar none. He takes the character to an exciting new level. I remember when I when I first heard of his casting in the role, my thought was WTF?.

Why such a quick exit for two-face? I believe there is a possibility for a return, because hey, I thought Gordon was really dead as well.

My biggest gripe wit the movie, I didn't care much at all for the CGI two-face, some make-up IMO would have been much more appropriate.

My Rating: 4.8/5

I have to disagree I do not believe that make-up could have done justice to the amount of damage Harvey sustained in the comics to make him Two-face.  Also, while killing Rachel may or may not have driven him over the line in my opinion he was already there.  Remember the scene when he was going to kill the fake cop until the Batman stops him telling him he is better than that?  Finally they tell you he is refusing his meds and with the amount of damage he has he is in agonizing pain.  After the CGI you can tell the amount of pain likely would have driven him the rest of the way to madness.  Also in the comic Harvey was a good person who suppressed his bad feelings so deep that when he gets the Two-face wounds it causes a split personality good/evil.  In the comics you never both sides of his face at the same time after he becomes Two-face.  Someone correct me if I am wrong though.  Wasn't his damage caused by acid not benzine or alcohol and wasn't it a different bad guy who inflicted his wounds?

BTW, speaking of Batgirl, did anyone notice how they kept any clear view of Barbara Gordon anyway from the camera?  Anytime they showed the Commissioner's daughter, the view was obstructed or her mother was hiding her face.  I wonder if it was intentional to setup a future Batgirl scenario and they didn't want to predetermine how the girl would look.

My first problem with the movie stems from this...not because they didn't show the daughter's face, but because his wife is the one named Barbara.

To be honest, I didn't even know his wife had a name until this movie.  I stopped reading comics a long time ago.

Well, yes. But I thought he refused to stop taking his meds because of the loss of Rachel; so that his bodily pain would cover the pain coming from his heart...
