Well the three boys (for that is now confirmed) have reached nearly 9 weeks and have now just arrived at their new home... ie our house!

I am proud to introduce you to:

Byron - born first, runt of the litter, club footed at birth but now fine - he's the brains!

Bandit - named for his 'black mask' but suited to it; he's the big boy, all action and up for fun!

Edison - sleepy head; what's he planning in his dreams though?

The three brothers...

Ginger, my avatar, is just about ten years old in September.  She's a Humane Society Special, part golden, part lab, part beagle, part something else (some have suggested Rhodesian Ridgeback, though she's awfully small for that).

When I decided I wanted to get a dog, I went to the local Humane Society and went through the aisles.  All the dogs barked at me and it was getting depressing.  Then I went down a back aisle, and in one of the cages was Ginger, looking sad, scrawny and miserable.  She looked at me sadly and then lifted her right paw and wagged it at me, like "please be my daddy." Love at first sight.

So I told the people I wanted Ginger.  They said, "She's already spoken for."  I was crestfallen.  They saw that and added, "But they claimed her several days ago, and they haven't come back for her.  So if they don't call by tomorrow noon, or show up, then you can have her."

The next day was a Saturday, but I had to work out of town.  I kept calling on my cell phone, asking if they had called yet for Ginger.  They said, no, they hadn't.  Finally noon came, and they said, OK, she's yours.  You can pick her up today or Monday.  I said, "I am working today, but I'll come by if I make it back into town in time.  Otherwise it'll have to be Monday."  They said, that's fine.

So I finished my work, got back home and was changing my clothes at about 3:30PM when I checked my answering machine.  There was a message from the Humane Society saying someone else was interested in Ginger and if I wanted her I needed to come by 4 PM!  So I dashed down there and arrived about 10 to 4, and said, "I'm here for Ginger."  They gave me her file, and while I'm standing at the counter, another guy comes in and says, "I'm here for Ginger."  I clutched her file to my chest, and they said,"I'm sorry, someone else has claimed her.  We have some other dogs we can show you."

So that's how Ginger came to stay with me.  It was a very near thing, but clearly we were meant to be together.  She's been the best companion ever since.

This is Dakota. He's a Shiba Inu.

The Shiba Inu (Shiba Inu also called the Shiba Ken) is the smallest of the six original and distinct breeds of dog from Japan.

A small, agile dog that copes very well with mountainous terrain, the Shiba Inu was originally bred for hunting.  It is similar in appearance to the Akita, though much smaller in stature.

Inu is the Japanese word for dog, but the "Shiba" prefix's origin are less clear. The word shiba usually refers to a type of red shrub. This leads some to believe that the Shiba was named with this in mind, either because the dogs were used to hunt in wild shrubs, or because the most common color of the Shiba Inu is a red color similar to that of the shrubs. However, in old Japanese, the word shiba also had the meaning of "small", thus this might be a reference to the dog's small size. Therefore, the Shiba Inu is sometimes translated as "Little Brushwood Dog".

My youngest (Prince)

will be father by the end of the month.
First picture of my new "grandchildren"
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?
