| Posted: | | | | I just watched what has to be the greatest swimming relay race ever. Without giving anything away I will say this to show just how incredible it was... the 5th place team broke the world record! Think about that, breaking the world record yet still being 2 places away from even a bronze medal. The event I am talking about is the Men's 4 x 100m Freestyle Relay: Spoiler: (Select to view)I don't care who you were rooting for that race was awesome. Of course it was a bit better if you were cheering on the Americans I thought the finishes yesterday were great. Tonight was unbelievable. Women's 400m Freestyle: Spoiler: (Select to view)Two races where the 1st place swimmer lost at the wire. I felt bad for Katie Hoff. but after watching what the men did I have to say I know how those cheering on Great Britain felt when Addlington beat Hoff by .07 seconds. Congrats to all the winners today. |

| Posted: | | | | That was the best swimming race I've ever seen! World records are being shattered ones after anothers. I's like you say. You're having 4th and 5th. places breaking the the previous world records. But that race... was something historical. | | | With every passing hour our solar system comes forty-three thousand miles closer to globular cluster M13 in the constellation Hercules, and still there are some misfits who continue to insist that there is no such thing as progress. | | | Last edited: by Skywatcher |

Yep, that was another great race. Another race I really enjoyed... Spoiler: (Select to view)...was the one with the kid from Korea. To go from a false start and disqualification 4 years ago, at 14, to his countries first swimming medal...a gold no less...is what the Olympics are all about. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. Great race

I hope you thought that it was the French talking smack, not the Australians because the last time we talked trash was 2000 and we did "smash you like guitars" then but that is ancient history now. As a result of the race we do have the new 100M World Record holder though. He's also the World Record holder for the 50M so watch out. | | | Last edited: by Telecine |

| Posted: | | | | Spoiler: (Select to view)While I can't speak for Unicus I felt he was talking about the French. The broadcast here mentioned how the French were going to smash us. In fact it mentioned it quite a bit. When the athletes were interviewed after the event they made mention of it as well. FWIW the Austrailians are rockin in the swimming events! I'm looking forward to the rest of the events |

Agreed... and I too thought they looked a little CGI on the night and said so to my wife! BTW I only know about the coverage here in the UK so can anyone say that over the whole myriad of parallel channels broadcasting lots of different sports that I can't watch a single fencing match is only the case in the UK or are other countries not getting any either? Given that fencing was one of the 9 sports in the very first modern Olympics and is (to my mind) a lot more viewer friendly than many of the sports being shown I can't understand it... even when showing the modern pentathalon they have specifically restricted it to only the other 4 sports... (If I find out some busy-body has decided it shouldn't be shown in the UK in case it it perceived as promoting carrying knives on the streets of Britain (a hot topic with the press at the moment after some high profile child-on-child stabbings) I am going to be mad as heck!) | | | It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong |

Bernard, who swam the anchor leg of the relay, made this comment when asked about Team USA: "The Americans? We're going to smash them. All we saw, at least all I saw, was the final match for the womens individual saber. I saw some fencing over here in NL. We can watch live coverage on 12 channels on the Internet here. Not sure that'll work outside NL though... |

I wish I had DVRed it, but then the commercials sort of ruins the entire presentation. Absolutely agree with you, 5 minutes of coverage alternating with 5 minutes of commercials is more than I care to sit still for. It was obvious when they returned from commercial breaks a lot of what appeared to be a dazzler of a show was missed. I turned it off after the first hour. |
