| Posted: | | | | I have been buying HD releases (HD-DVD and Blu-ray) since January and haven't bought a single standard DVD since then. I intend to upgrade all my DVDs to High-def (if available). As I see it, it is no problem to find great bargains for Blu-rays, so the price is no issue for me. You simply have to be a bit patient and read one or two price forums regularly. | | | Michael |

| Posted: | | | | DVD all the way for me, pure and simple economics. In UK BluRay are so expensive which is great for bargain hunting for DVDs which get pushed down in price! |

| Posted: | | | | I occasionally buy Blu if its on sale and if its a movie I really want. I have found out though it can be a lot cheaper to buy Blu-ray movies online vs. a brick and mortar store. Even cheaper than the local Wal-mart. Ever since my local Blockbuster started carrying Blu I've been renting them to see if its worth the money to either upgrade or buy. | | | We're on a mission from God.

| Posted: | | | | I have no Blu-ray equipment yet. OK, I started buying DVDs shortly before I had a DVD player, but the advantage was that the format looked more durable than VHS tape (and it is, of course) as well as offering a better picture. From what I can see of split screens in stores, if I buy a really big screen as well as a Blu-ray player, I will see a marginally better picture from a considerably more expensive Blu-ray disc. That is, if the folks in charge of the Blu-ray transfer did it right, and if you look carefully behind the mountains of Blu-ray hype, you will find a few voices of doubt on this topic.
There looks to be an increasing amount of crap on Blu-ray, as well as better material like "The Simpsons" which is extremely unlikely to look significantly better in the new format. I suppose a traditional Cast of Gazillions epic like The Ten Commandments might be enjoyable, but what about a deliberately dingy, small-scale piece like Reservoir Dogs or The Usual Suspects? Are these really meant for superduper resolution? How much is my enjoyment level going to be increased, if at all, from suddenly noticing Harvey Keitel's make-up?
All in all, the incentive to me to go Blu-ray seems inconsequential. |

All in all, the incentive to me to go Blu-ray seems inconsequential. I've yet to see an HD DVD or Blu-ray that I couldn't notice the difference on. I know some people think the difference is marginal, but that's not been my experience. And it's even more noticeable when you go back to DVD. I just re-watched Band of Brothers on DVD and while it's supposed to have a great picture, there were some scenes that just made me cringe. Not from the inherit graininess (which is how it's supposed to look), but just backgrounds that were blurry and nasty looking. But that's just my experience. Others have differing opinions of course. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection. |

| Posted: | | | | I thought about it and decided to pass. Right now, I buy a DVD and I can play it anywhere. Family room, bedroom, computer, mini-van, portable...you name it. If I get a BR player I still have to buy the stupid DVD because I'll only be able to view the BR in a single location. It just doesn't work for my family's viewing habits. | | | Last edited: by mdnitoil |

| Posted: | | | | I definately am buying Blu-rays as a preference, and will typically upgrade the dvd if the movie is made post 2000. If it is made pre-2000 then it will have to be a great flick that I really like, otherwise imo the quality difference is negligable. |

| Posted: | | | | End July I bought my first Blu-Ray player (Sony BDP-300). I bought it because it had an good price and i would be able to play Blu-Ray discs - which would be a nice idea - and it would play even DVD's in better quality ! I have connected it to an TV which is HD-Ready set on 1080p with an HDMI-cable. On which resolution it actually shows it, i can't find in the manual unfortunatly. Since i put in my first Blu-Ray discs ( Celine Dion "LIVE in Las Vegas", Jodie Foster's "The Brave One" and Jessica Alba's "Into The Blue", Blade Runner and Close Encounters )... ... I am from the very first BD-disc on, totaly hooked on BLU RAY. I prefer it FAR above DVD. * Much better picture quality Incredible sharpness. And i read it from someone else before too. Backgrounds come to life - instead of being something shimmy at the back it suddenly appears of an background that steps in front with large detail !! I love wide scenery (landscape) shots which are in high definition so much more beautiful on Blu Ray then on the DVD. * It plays DTS audio tracks * Great menu's - access in overlay while playing movie Since i pressed the BD-play button I prefer Blu Ray by far. I have been buying since then only a few DVD's which are definitly not likely to appear in the near or even far future on Blu Ray. All other buys were only Blu Ray and more Blu Ray Only the price of European mainland releases are much too high... therefor i shop for titles mainly in the US (rem.: all regions discs as the Sony cant play region A) and United Kingdom where you can buy, after a little searching, titles from around 8 to 15 euro. Which is half or even 1/3 of the price it would be otherwise. In very short time i passed now - without any regret - the 50 Blu-Ray discs already. I never thought, until just a little more then a month ago, that i would like and prefer BD so much above DVD ! Only disadvantage are the long waiting times at player startup and the loading time from the disc. |

I would buy everything on Blu-ray if it was available and cheaper (same price as DVD), but it's not. I don't see that change anytime soon. Lets see pay to replace a drive in a computer, buy a new laptop, then get a hi-def monitor hmmm Only DVD's. Samsung UK says BluRay will be replaced in 5 years: http://www.betanews.com/article/Samsung_UK_exec_Blurays_got_five_years_to_live/1220543807Guess I better make my stuff last 5 more years. | | | Thank You, Eric Vogel | | | Last edited: by Eric V. |

| Posted: | | | | Since i like the bonus stuff on on the disk I look at the price and many time its only 5$ to 9$ more of the DVD to get the Blu-Ray. But if it more of 10$ I dont buy it and wait for a price drop for the DVD or Blu-Ray. |
