| Posted: | | | | Connecting with another thread, how long are we going to have to wait for a DVD of The Prize? Wonderful film in which Newman plays a cynical Nobel for Literature winner who, it turns out, has been writing despised detective fiction under a pseudonyn for years. Edward G. Robinson, as a Hungarian Science winner (if memory serves), is impersonated by a Soviet spy, and Newman's character is the only one who notices. Friction with Elke Sommer follows, plus an unusual lecture which Newman's character is forced to attend to avoid an assassin, who buys it in grand fashion at the end. Leo G. Carroll plays a Nobel official who, completely unaware of all this, placidly hopes that the prize ceremonies will go off without any embarrassments. Funny, exciting, suspenseful movie, based on a great trashy bestseller novel. I treasure my copy on videotape, but would be happy to trash it in favor of a disc. |

| Posted: | | | | So, I finally wanted to honor him and watch 1 or 2 of his movies tomorrow. I couldn't believe it, but I only own 7 of his works. They are:
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid Cars (Voice) Cat on a Hot Tin Roof Hombre The Hustler The Verdict Torn Curtain
actually, Torn Curtain hasn't arrived yet :/ I'm almost ashamed I don't have more than that as he's one of my favorite actors. I'll certainly be getting the new Cool Hand Luke release though. So, which ones do you have? | | | - Jan |

| Posted: | | | | I believe the box set The Paul Newman Collection may be available at a bargain price ($20 or so) in some of the big box membership stores. If so, it's well worth getting, with
Harper The Drowning Pool (sequel to Harper) The Left Handed Gun The Mackintosh Man Pocket Money Somebody Up There Likes Me (first movie in which Newman's talent was evident; The Silver Chalice doesn't count in this respect) The Young Philadelphians |
