What will happen if no-one reaches the 270 Electoral Vote Count, unlikely I know but what if?
Re-Vote or will the candidate with the most Votes take it…
"Should none of the candidates win 270 electoral votes, the 12th Amendment kicks in and the election is decided by the House of Representatives. The combined representatives of each state get one vote and a simple majority of states is required to win. This has only happened twice. Presidents Thomas Jefferson in 1801 and John Quincy Adams in 1825 were elected by the House of Representatives." Plus a couple of fun points: The Congress which would elect the President and Vice President would be the incoming Congress and not the outgoing Congress. Also, the House chooses the President and the Senate chooses the Vice President (by majority of Senators...not majority of states as in the House). Therefore, it's possible to get a President and Vice President from different parties. Since we don't know what the makeup of the incoming Congress will be, we can only look at the statistics of the outgoing Congress as a guide. By my count, 26 states have more Democratic representatives than Republicans, 22 have more Republicans, and 2 have split delegations. In the Senate, we currently have 49 Dems, 49 Reps, and 2 Independents who vote with the Dems. I would expect that Joe Lieberman (Independent who spoke at the Republican convention) could name his price for his vote. Again, that's looking at the current Congress just for fun, and not the incoming Congress which could be very different. I have already voted. I wish I could turn off the TV ads, the robocalls, and the junk mail. | | | ...James
