don't know why the FS discs don't go to a discount bin at Blockbusters  as its is their customers who complained about the 'black bars' that in turn made Blockbusters and others to 'campaign' the studios to bring out more FS discs...

I'm hoping that one of the side effects of the changeover in Feb. to digital broadcasting will be that more people bite the bullet and go HD and WS instead of just buying a converter box.  They won't be so willing to spend good money on non-WS DVDs if that happens.

Here in the US it is getting very hard to buy a 4x3 TV!

As more old TVs die, we will shift to 16x9 over time. This should put a nail in the coffin for 1.33:1 pan & scan.

And as that starts happening I pray we don't start seeing 2.35 movies be cropped or P&S to 1.78...

About 6mths ago I recall someone mentioning this practice already starting.  Just another in a long list of bad habits that the studios just can't seem to break.

I know when I shop the $5 dollar bin at Walmart I won't buy it unless it is in widescreen. So far I haven't run into this issue or at least haven't found out yet. Well like they say ignorance is bliss and I'm a happy MF.

Lionsgate has done this. "Lord Of War" is one example.

I've only seen this forr certain R1 releases. The original release was a dual sided disc, 1 side widescreen, the other side full screen. Upon re-release, the disc became single sided, retaining only the full screen side (why on earth they removed the good side is beyond me ) , while keeping the same UPC.

2 examples I can think of are:

Sheena        043396-065352
Solarbabies  027616-072436

The best way to check this out is searching for a review of the DVD.

The answer to that is easy:  Most of the two sided discs had the WS on the flip side.  On reissue, they just forget to burn the flip side version, so most end up as only FS.  These typically end up in the $5 bin at the discount stores.  Ironically, I see people cherry-pick the WS stuff out of those bins and leave the FS laying there, so any awful lot of that FS stuff ends up going back to the distributors to be destroyed.

Sorry to be offtopic, but if anyone could help me getting a WS edition of "Solarbabies", please send me a PM. Most sellers on ebay don't list if it is WS or FS.

No, according to this thread there is a re-release with the same UPC containing only the fullscreen version.

I would suggest checking ebay and amazon, then emailing the sellers asking clearly.
Of course I did this a couple years ago with Sheena. An Amazon seller replyed to me that it was the old dual sided disc, then sent me the FS only one. Can't believe he acted suprised when I returned it, but I got one a few days later from an ebay seller that was the right one.

Thankfully I haven't seen any in a case that says WS and FS be FS only, although it wouldn't shock me. I'm sure some old covers get mixed in once in a while, or just straight up used on purpose to save $.

I'll keep an eye out for Solorbabies, but don't recall seeing that title around here ever.

I bought my copy from Axelmusic, a Danish Shop last year in september. I believe they had it listed as Full Screen only, so I emailed them. They verified with the supplier and it was confirmed to be the doublesided flipper. And indeed, it was. It will cost you 11.97€ including shipping.

I on the other hand am stuck with the single sided "Sheena"    , I'd like to find the WS version of that one.

Where can I get my hands on a WS copy of Sheena? All the places I've looked at are selling the FS version only.
