They'll both give the same picture. The only real difference(s) would be that the PS3 will probably load faster whereas the other one has analog audio outputs.

Of course, the PS3 can play games, is constantly updated, blah blah blah.

The BDP-S350 does NOT have analog audio outputs (other than stereo RCA jacks), but it DOES output decoded Dolby TrueHD over HDMI (NOT DTS HD - you'll need a receiver capable of decoding that).

Here's a review of the BDP-S350. I can confirm the picture quality of the 350 is excellent (I have one myself).

For analogue multichannel output you'd need the BDP-S550.

The BDP-S350 can be updated with new firmware quite easily, either by network connection or by downloading the new firmware, burn it on a CD as an ISO file and have the player read the CD following Sony's on-line instructions. New firmware is needed for BD-Live support.

You can hear very different opinions on the level of fan noise from the PS3. The BDP-S350 is quiet.

Can confirm the update, did mine over the network, didn't take too long either.

Fan noise? There's a Fan installed   Must say I have never heard the fan yet. My BDP-S350 sits atop my Sky+ box (only slot in my present cabinet wide enough too house both units), will have to get around too designing and building a new unit at some time.
