| Posted: | | | | Well, I'd rather see Bay directing Star Trek before I see him direct Foundation... I think the Foundation series would be better suited to a long tv-series, like Battlestar Galactica or Babylon 5. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 | | | Last edited: by Nexus the Sixth |

| Posted: | | | | I watched 10,000BC recently (for research purposes of course) and it's reinforced my belief that this is going to be a terrible movie And whats the deal with 10,000? There were times when I thought I'd put Stargate in the player by mistake |

There were times when I thought I'd put Stargate in the player by mistake The 10,000 has to do with the fact that it is the end of last ice age, when hunter/gatherer groups were transitioning to farming and permanent settlements, and the beginning of the Egyptian culture. Remember that 10,000 years ago, the Sahara was not a desert spanning half a continent. It wasn't the greatest movie ever made by any means, but it isn't as bad as many people think, either. | | | John

It did work well as an unintentional comedy though! | | | Corey |

I think you misinterpreted my post. I mean't whats with the film, there are parts that are straight out of Stargate. I think Emmerich must've gotten confused while making 10k and had flashbacks to when he was making Stargate Don't get me wrong though, I love Stargate. |

| Posted: | | | | When I was younger, I was enthusiastic about any literary work I liked being considered for a movie. Later, I came to the conclusion that some just weren't made for that medium, and talky idea SF like Foundation looked like a particularly bad prospect. That said, an adroit filmmaker can transform any story into a great movie. I think Harlan Ellison's adaptation of I, Robot would have been wonderful. So I won't give up on this. At least it's not a movie to which an Asimov title was stuck so's to reach a guaranteed fan base (that's the story with the I, Robot which was actually made).
Think of Blade Runner and the novel which inspired it, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sleep?. Great movie, though I think a more faithful adaptation (which would be very, very different) could also be made with artistic success (and a lot less money). |

I remember 20 some-odd years ago when I first read L. Ron Hubbard's Battlefield Earth I was so overwhelmed...it was a fantastic read . Then came the movie... . | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |
