I've got 4 copies of 'Jesus Christ Superstar'.

The classical one and the 2000 one

and then later I bought a box which had both in them.
Unfortunately, I can't use DVDprofiler at the moment due to lack of a Windows computer.

the re-release with the plastic keep case and the original dvd with the cardboard case that warner brothers movies used to come in.
Just wondering if this seems insane and if anyone out there has a movie or several that they have purchased multiple copies.

Just this part makes you insane, as the 2 discs I left in are identical except for packaging. So you are either insane or a collector/completest.
Of course I have instances of this in my collection as well, like having the Halloween TV version solo disc despite having the LE set with the exact same disc inside it, and the Army of Darkness DC solo disc despite having the LE with the same disc. In my (week, grasping for straws) defense, they have different covers and the Halloween has a film cell, so I got em more for that. I guess you could say the snapper and keepcase are different, but they have the same art...

Pretty much anyone who posts here probably has a dvd problem.

Man i HATED those cardboard cases. sometimes i would remove the "security" stickers and it would take off some of the cover! i just couldn't get rid of my original Beetlejuice dvd! the insane part of it is that Beetlejuice isn't my all time favorite movie!!

Let's see, I have two copies of ...

My Neighbor Totoro (two different dubs)
Iron Man (DVD & Blu)
The Dark Knight (DVD & Blu)
Battle Royale (two different releases, both probably boots)
The Day the Earth Stood Still (original release & the bonus disc with the remake)
Alexander (theatrical & final cut)
Daredevil (theatrical & director's cut)

I don't generally keep more than one edition of a film, unless I see a compelling reason, such as different cuts of the film, or different subtitle or dubbing tracks.  I simply don't have the space.  The press of space may make me consider having to slow the acquisition of DVDs, and that is a sad, sad thing.

I need a bigger house - just for the DVDs!

I just thought of another triple dip: Daredevil. I have the original DVD, the director's cut and the Blu-ray. It's not even a good movie. It's more of a demostration of studio interference gone horribly wrong.

I believe almost all of us here on invelos does not have enough room for his/her movie collection

Ontopic:
Inadvertently I got two copies of 'Iron Monkey'. One standard edition and one came as a bonus disc by another movie. In my opinion I own this movie two times to many

The movie 'Goodfellas' I bought 3 times. The first is a two sided dvd in a snapper. Second one is a single side dvd (couple years later) and recently the third one I bought the BR version of 'Goodfellas'.

Usually I give older copies away when I got a better version of a movie. So I have very few "double dips" even though I bought quite a number of movies at least twice.

I think my record is "Dune" with about 5 different versions I owned at one time or another. Currently I own 2 (Theatrical and TV cut).

I used to multi-dip all the time.  I'd check out DVDBeaver and look at those comparison screenshots and decide I just had to have the latest version of X because of some minor improvement.  Over the years, I've noticed that I often times can't actually see this great improvement.  Mainly because I never actually run the two versions side-by-side.

I'll still do the occasional double-dip, but I need to have a very good reason for it.  Typically, stupendous features or recovered footage.  More often than not, what I have is "good enough".

you have to admit that would be pretty impressive! i have had thoughts of just dumping all my cd's/dvds on the floor in my living room just to see what it would look like. then i would have to pick them back up.....

You can have enough?

Seriously I try to measure my perceived value added of a given title that is re-released. The re-release of GWTW was a marvelous value added, and BD will probably take it to another level. As will Wizard of Oz. As some of the comparisons at DVDBeaver show there is also essentially, in terms of picture quality, a major difference from release to release...which one is the closest to the original theatrical release or other factors. That is the question. Courtesy of the last restoration of GWTW we are now literally seeing AND hearing a movie which was not seen in 1939 or ever, until now...is that good or bad.

I don't see anything crazy with owning multiple copies of a film if they are differently edited versions or have different extras. The only thing I'd tag as "insane" is buying the exact same disc/content just for different packaging.

I've purchased the following multiples on DVD (I've also owned many titles in my collection on VHS and Laserdisc over the years, far too many to list here    ):

The Exorcist (25th Anniversary Ed/"The Version You've Never Seen")
Dog Soldiers (R1 version/R2 version with additional extras)
Daredevil (Standard release/Director's Cut)
The Fantastic 4 (standard/Extended edition)
The Evil Dead (Elite Collector's edition/Book of the Dead edition)
A Nightmare on Elm Street (Standard edition/Infinifilm special edition)
Punisher (standard release/extended cut)
Lord of the Rings (theatrical/extended cuts of all three films)
Halloween (standard release/25th Anniv edition)
Hellboy (2-disc/3-disc)
Jaws (Anniversary DTS/30th Anniv)
My Little Chickadee (incl in both Mae West collection/WC Fields collection)
Pinocchio (Limited Issue/70th Anniv combo set)
Serenity (standard/collector's edition)
Bram Stoker's 'Dracula' (Superbit/Collector's Edition)
Sleeping Beauty (Special Ed/50th Anniv Ed)
Superman II (standard/Richard Donner cut)
Twin Peaks (Season 1 set/Gold Box complete series)

so by buying the same exact Beetlejuice movie just one has cardboard case and other the normal plastic keep case, that's insane? you're probably right! i just hate those cardboard cases, don't have the heart to get rid of any movies!!
