| Posted: | | | | Many people made many great points in this posts and are hard to follow up without sounding like I am being bitter or complaining but I will try. Some one made a great comment about testing the waters on whether or not a season will sell. That is what the best of season fill in the blank is for. Studios know if that sells well, it is likely the whole season will. As for splitting seasons and giving you content which has been sold separately SciFi Channel screwed all of us with Battlestar Galactica. Not only did they split 2 seasons but they made Razor and then included it in season 2 or 3. The Simpsons, ah, I love them, I HATE Fox. During the beginning of the release cycle they released one season every six months. Then it went to once a year and now we are back to every six month, but skipping seasons. It is very sticky when buying seasons. It took six years to get all of the M*A*S*H series just to have a pretty nice box set come out. I bought TV series incomplete in the beginning when I was working at a great job and making a lot of money. Now that the times have changed I mostly wait until all the seasons are available and someone is having sale. This is sticky to though because first released seasons often get shelfed and then you have to scramble to find them as well. |

| Posted: | | | | Another issue I have is Homicide: Life on the Street. There were four episodes of Law and Order whose stories were continued in Homicide. But, unless you either bought the huge file cabinet packaged complete series or bought L&O series DVDs, the six packages of seasons 1-7 contain none of those L&O episodes and viewers (me) must deal with recaps only. Why do I need to double dip on something I've paid hundreds of dollars for in order to see complete stories? | | | If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

I've yet to find or see a complete TV series on Blueray using their total capabilities-
The BD format offers more than five times the storage capacity of traditional DVDs and can hold up to 25GB on a single-layer disc and 50GB on a dual-layer disc. Regular DVD holds only 4.7 GB and even though the manufacturer only stores an hour or so on each disc,, when they could in fact hold 3+ hours.. and BD could hold at least 10 hours .. in HD but these older TV series are not redone in High def.. BUT they could be at least 'captured in standard def' and stored in this new optical disc . There wouldn't be a lot of point to that. Wjile you could put 20+ hours of SD on a Blu-ray, you would end up with something that looks no better than a DVD and has a much smaller potential market. |

| Posted: | | | | Just a heads up, but My Two Dads Season 2, Room 222 Season 2, Mr. Belvedere Season 4 and Ironside Season 3, will be available in the next few months. Unfortunatly they will not be in retail stores or on Amazon type sites, just through Shout Factory's online store due to lack of retail sales. These are not manufactured on demand, but made just like the previous seasons. The news stories are posted on TVShowsonDVD.com. | | | We're on a mission from God.

| Posted: | | | | If I like a series I buy them as they come out and as soon as I get them I drop everything and watch them, example MI-5 (Spooks).
A number of classic like I Love Lucy, I Spy, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., I buy as they come on sale.
If a series that I've never followed and is complete set and is on sale and it sounds interesting I'll buy it. Example Arrested Development, the whole series less than $30.00.
I hate commercials and like the continuity of watching a complete season at once.
I've started a tag for complete TV series and for the initial season.
Blu-ray tried Rome (complete series) and Lost (1 thru 5) Amazon specials, they are great with plenty of extras.
I have notice that some older series come on DVD after they have a run on say retro TV on some of the lesser TV stations.
They are starting to sell for down load individual episodes for a number of series.

| Posted: | | | | I have a lot of TV shows in my collection. (They account for about half the way DVD Profiler does things.) If we restrict discussion to series that went more than one season, I have the complete runs of the following:
[li]The 4400 Absolutely Fabulous Alias Alien Nation (I count it as multiple seasons because of all the movies.) Ally McBeal Angel Arrested Development Babylon 5 Batman Beyond Batman: The Animated Series The Boondocks Buffy the Vampire Slayer Chappelle's Show Dark Angel The Dead Zone Dilbert Fawlty Towers Futurama (I don't have all the DTV stuff yet.) Ghost in the Shell: Stand-Alone Complex Gilmore Girls The Greatest American Hero Hercules: The Legendary Journeys The Incredible Hulk The Jamie Kennedy Experiment Joan of Arcadia The Joe Schmo Show M*A*S*H Millennium Monty Python's Flying Circus Mr. Bean Murder One The O.C. The Prisoner Seinfeld The Shield Soap Spawn Stargate: SG-1 Stripperella Three's Company Time Tunnel Tru Calling The Twilight Zone (bought right before the Blu-ray was announced) Twin Peaks Veronica Mars Wonder Woman The X-Files Xena: Warrior Princess[/li]
There are plenty of other shows I would finish buying if they would finish releasing them. (NYPD Blue, The Practice, Malcolm in the Middle and King of the Hill, for instance) I hate it when shows get abandoned halfway through. | | | Last edited: by Ace_of_Sevens |

| Posted: | | | | Some series I am not prepared to wait until they are complete, especially those that are still being aired. I will not, however, buy a part one type release for a season. I would rather buy the complete season. (Supernatural is one that I can think of that does this). I would also rather have them as they are released than have to wait untill ALL are rlease as they may never release all - Fantasy Island is a prime example - if I had to wait I would STILL be waiting!
I do have a larger collection made up of TV series though and several are from those still being aired | | | <---------Mithrandir, Laverne and Shirley Caroline |

I can understand the problem with lack of retail sales (which then get returned), but once you manufacture a DVD (the coding part particularly), I don't see the point in not selling through Amazon. As for "manufactured on demand" DVDs, they dropped from visibility as well after just a few (Nickelodeon) examples on Amazon. | | | Hans |

| Posted: | | | | How about all those series that got an early retirement by the networks? Do you buy half-seasons with unresolved endings? | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 |

If a show sounds interesting to me just about nothing stops me from getting it. The only thing I find to be a must... if I am going to buy a show that I never seen before... I must be able to watch the episodes in order. If it is a show I already seen then that isn't even necessary. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | Ahh TV Series what an entertaining thread.
I am only interested in Series which are released as close to complete as possible recognizing that sometimes this could be problematic.
What many people don't realize is the issue as it relates to public domain. If the old memory serves me The Andy Griffith was the first to have this issue brought forth. It was released to syndication before it had completed it's run as a series. Once a series moves to syndication, the show istypically shortened to make room for MORE commercials. Andy Griffith and I think even CBS, took exception to this practice, as they felt it reflected badly upon the series that was still being aired. So they insisted on two things, one rename the show, and in syndication it became Andy of Mayberry and two they were not allowed to use the original opening theme. Similar problems cropped with other series of that era.
