Video: Full Frame 1.33:1 Audio: English: Dolby Digital: 2-Channel Stereo Subtitles: N/A Stars:William Smith Anitra Ford Victoria Vetri Cliff Osmond Wright King Ben Hammer Plot:Suspicious deaths in a California community come to the attention of the U.S. Government when one of their top scientists is found dead. A State Department agent is sent to investigate and learns from the coroner that the all-male victims died from "sexual exhaustion". Working on a lead about the case, the agent teams up with a female government research scientist and they discover a female insect expert is using a process to give women bee-like qualities and sending them out to kill men with sex. Extras:Scene Access My Thoughts: OK... this was interesting to say the least. This is definitely no Academy Award winner... but I enjoyed it much more then the last movie I watched! Obviously with the subject of this movie... it has it's share of sex and nudity. Though several of the scenes were so dark it was hard to make out what you were looking at at times. And I got to say... if you gotta go that is the way to go! I have this movie in the boxset I got last month... Horror Classics: 100 Movie Pack. Your basic public domain fair I believe. Quality could be much better. It is like watching a second generation VHS tape. But watchable. No extras what so ever. And the worst part... a Mills Creek Entertainment logo popped up in the lower right corner for a few seconds every once in a while. I learned to live with this on TV... but on a DVD!?!? That is just not right! Over all an entertaining "leave your brain at the door" pop-corn flick that has lots of nice looking ladies. Worth checking it out. But don't expect too much from it. Your Gone With the Wind review sounds just like mine after my girlfirend and her mom trapped me into watching it one afternoon. I really wanted to like it, but couldn't get fully into it ever.

When I decided to watch this movie I checked other reviews to see what others were saying about this movie. And I was surprised to see most people saying to skip this one. I personally enjoyed this one quite a bit. Loved Eliza Dushku in it... and found to be a very interesting movie. Well worth the hour and a half I put into watching it. I also liked that this is based of a real serial killer. I would definitely recommend this one... though with caution after reading so many bad reviews. So I would recommend with that notation. The only apparent resident of the property is a strangely deformed man named Torgo, who insists he is watching the place for "The Master". What our travelers don't know is "The Master" and his demon-worshipping wives have awakened from their slumber to prey upon them for their sacrifices. Extras:Scene Access My Thoughts: This is another movie that is in the 100 movie boxset I bought. While the plot sounds interesting... the movie is far from it. I can say for a fact that my daughter is a more talented writer then the person that wrote this drivel. And don't even get me started on the acting! I came very close to turning this movie off shortly after it started. But I wanted to give it a fair chance so I could give my opinion guilt free. The thing of it is... the main plot is a decent one... and we could have seen a good movie. But it does not even come close to succeeding. While the audio was fine... the quality of the video is very bad. It looks like it was taken from an old well used VHS tape. has the white interference lines at the bottom of the picture. The picture pauses and jerks in several scenes and the color is so off that it is distracting. The reds are bleeding into the black in some areas. And in other areas where it should be red is bled away and looks black and white. But that said... I have seen worse. Not many that is for sure. But there has been a few. His latest caper involves some embezzled bank money that apparently is hidden in the bank president's mansion. A reclusive woman and her niece are currently renting the mansion, after the bank owner passes away. Our villain must find a way to frighten off the unsuspecting boarders in order to find the stolen money, as well as try to stay one-step ahead of the law. Extras:Scene Access My Thoughts: A few months ago I watched the 1959 remake with Vincent Price of this movie. At the time I didn't even know it was a remake. But I enjoyed it. So when I found out that the original silent version of this movie is in the 100 movie boxset I bought... I knew it was one I wanted to watch soon. While they did change some things in the '59 version... it is pretty much the same story. So I enjoyed it. I especially liked how they made the mask of "The Bat"... think it looked really cool. I am also happy to say the video on this one is much better then I was expecting. No real complaints on it at all. It is a good copy of a good silent film. I am glad I have it in my collection. | | Posted: | | | | Roland West made this sound version which is another remake  The Bat Whispers: The Milestone Collection in 1930 which also good.  The print is as excellent. I hadn't seen em in at least 15 years myself (the first one, the second was all new to me). They are OOP, but appartently can be found on the web easily, and with featureless FS dvds, a free download looks nearly as good as a way over-priced early dvd. I got mine from a trade, but the dude was looking at me with a "you know you could just download this yourself, right?" kinda look. Still fun although much cornier than I recall (guess some of those jokes seemed better when I was too young to understand them), and a sequel that totally doesn't suck! I feel kinda bad for not having seen the original Wasp Woman, so I can't comment on that or compare. From what I've heard, it's just a different brand of cheese, but still cheese. |
