to double dip for Blu or not |

| | Posted: | | | | As long as they continue to make DVDs, I won't spend the extra $$$ for BluRay even though the improvement in picture quality may be better. I only have one DVD where the picture quality is horrible (Outland w/ Sean Connery), all my other 357 DVDs look great on my 53" Pioneer widescreen HDTV.
I spent too much money on what VHS videos I had when they came out with DVD. I resisted for as long as I possibly could before I finally decided to upgrade to DVD, began building my collection of my favorite movies and TV shows (got rid of cable TV in the process), HD DVD and BluRay came out, HD DVD failed, and BluRay is now the reining champ if you want ultra high definition content.
I refuse to upgrade again. I'm tired of spending all that $$$ on something, only to find something new is trying to take its place. I'm into new technology, but not when by the time I upgrade all my DVDs to BluRay, they'll come out with some ultra new whiz-bang technology (at an ever-increasing price) that puts BluRay to shame.

| | Posted: | | | | I mostly upgrade older classic films that have been restored for blu-ray since they benefit most from the jump in quality, but only if it has been done right and not by killing film grain and detail with DNR. Unfortunately some blu-ray titles look worse than DVD quality because of the studios desire to offer a "clean" image that the Pixar generation can relate to. And also some studios just put out an old inferior master on blu-ray to make a quick buck instead of investing the money to properly remaster the film from its original negatives. So be sure to check out some reviews before you decide to double-dip. You could say the same thing with Star Wars. There is no way that Lucas envisioned Darth Vader as Luke's father (or Princess Leia's father) in the original Star Wars. | | | | My Home Theater |
