Problem with that is it would lead to "race conditions" where two people could assign the same BY to a common name but for different people. It would require everyone to check the thread to see if a BY was assigned before assigning a BY. More and more I think about it, using an external source sounds like the only way to go. In that regard, I nominate IMDB |

| Posted: | | | | As I said, I don't think the transforming of the roman number is a very bad idea. But I can imagine it will lead us to conflicts which need to track them also in a thread or a similar way. I think I'll always copy them locally matching to my number, so it is also Ok, just wanted to point out the problematic that could appear.
Both ways are not perfect, but yet I also don't have an better idea. | | | Last edited: by VirusPil |

| Posted: | | | | Quoting VirusPil: Quote: Explanation: Maybe there are 7 different Steve Smith but also one Steve S. Smith and one Steve G. Smith, but maybe common name here would be Steve Smith for all 10. The basic problem there is that Steve S. Smith or Steve G. Smith may very well be the common name for that person, if only we were able to split up CLT results for 10 different Steve Smiths... | | | Hans |

In that regard, I nominate IMDB I agree. And we have also the case of actors with a BY in IMDb, but not yet accepted by Invelos. Examples (I have a headshot for all those) : Jack White 1975 Jack White 9913 Jackie Moran 1923 Jackie Moran 1972 Jamie Anderson 1989 Jamie Anderson 9905 Roy Stewart 1883 Roy Stewart 1925 I propose to keep the real BY in this case (we are not in a contribution process) . | | | Images from movies | | | Last edited: by surfeur51 |

However, I know of several cases where actors with the same name have the same BY, and in one case even the same birthdate (although one in UK, one in US). | | | Hans |
