Ace student Light Yagami finds the Death Note, a notebook intentionally dropped by a rogue "Shinigami" death god named Ryuk. Any human whose name is written in the notebook dies. Upset with the current justice system, Light takes matters into his own hands and vows to use the power of the Death Note to rid the world of all evil, and become "the God of the new world." A mysterious detective known only as "L" quickly learns that the serial killer, nicknamed "Kira" by the public, is located in Japan. Light realizes that L will be his greatest enemy, and a game of psychological cat and mouse between the two begins. Extras:Scene Access Feature Trailers Bonus Trailers Interviews My Thoughts: I been curios about checking this one out since it was given to me a few months back. For the past week or so my daughter Brittany has been watching the anime series... and raving about it... which renewed my curiosity on the movies. So I figured this was the perfect chance to watch the first one. I must say... I enjoyed this movie very much. I got a kick out of how they did the Shinigami in this movie and hope to see him as part of the sequel. Though I don't know why he wouldn't be. I found Light to be an interesting character. A person that was actually a bit darker then the first impression they gave us. Now when it came to "L"... I thought he was a bit on the strange side... but not so strange it took away from the character or story. He does seem to have some weird fascination with food. As I said... over-all I enjoyed every minute of this one. It easily kept my attention from beginning to end. Definitely one I feel comfortable recommending to others. I am looking forward to the sequel... though I think I am going to try to save it for another day instead of jumping right into it. My Rating: 4.5/5 | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | Title: Eternal Year: 2004 Director: Wilhelm Liebenberg, Federico Sanchez Rating: R Length: 108 Min. Video: Widescreen 1.78:1 Audio: English: Dolby Digital: 5.1 Subtitles: English Stars:Sarah Manninen Caroline Néron Victoria Sanchez Conrad Pla Ilona Elkin Nick Baillie Plot:When the beautiful wife of a Montreal vice cop disappears, his investigation leads him to an alluring temptress who admits only to having steamy sex with the missing woman. Unconvinced, the detective plunges into her dark, erotic world, uncovering a terrifying connection to a 16th-century countess said to have seduced and murdered young women to bathe in their blood in order to remain immortal. Now, the detective finds himself in a deadly race against time to prevent this modern vampiress from claiming another victim in this supernatural thriller inspired by actual events. Extras:Scene Access Bonus Trailers Closed Captioned My Thoughts: I decided to check this one out today because I felt like watching a horror movie I haven't seen yet. And the plot of this one sounded interesting at least. And it saying that this story was " Inspired by Actual Events" didn't hurt. I went in knowing it could go either way. While I enjoyed this one... it's slow pace did lessen the enjoyment some. Though it still has a good story. I would really like to see another (preferably a little better) movie inspired by Countess Elizabeth Bathory. I have heard of her story before... but this is the first movie I have seen dealing with her. My Rating: 3.5/5 | | | Pete |

Video: Full Frame 1.33:1 Audio: English: Dolby Digital: Mono Subtitles: None Stars:Stan Laurel Oliver Hardy Jean Parker Reginald Gardiner Plot:Oliver is heartbroken when he finds that Georgette, the innkeeper's daughter he has fallen in love with, is already married to a dashing foreign Legion officer. To forget her, he joins the Legion, taking Stanley with him. Their bumbling eventually get them charged with desertion and sentenced to a firing squad. Extras:Scene Access My Thoughts: I felt like a little classic comedy today. And sense I never seen very much of Laurel and Hardy... I thought this was the perfect time to check out this movie. Not a bad movie... got a few chuckles out of me. But I was expecting more... after all... this is Laurel and Hardy... one of the best known classic comedic duos. But I don't know... they don't seem to rank up there with Abbott & Costello... at least not in my opinion. My Rating: 3/5 | | | Pete |

Video: Anamorphic Widescreen 1.85:1 Audio: English: Dolby Digital: 5.1, French: Dolby Digital: Dolby Surround Subtitles: English, French Stars:Angie Harmon Joel Gretsch Jordan Hinson Bobby Coleman Jason London Tasha Smith Plot:Angie Harmon (TV's "Law & Order") and Joel Gretsch ( The Legend of Bagger Vance) star in this chilling suspense thriller. After losing their mother and father in a tragic accident, teenager Abby Snow and her younger brother Ethan find a new home with Eve (Harmon) and Raymond Goode (Gretsch). Moving into their adoptive parents' remote mansion, however, the siblings come to the shocking realization that the Goodes are not exactly what they seem, and the Snows' dream of love and security turns into a living nightmare of cruelty, hate and terror. Extras:Scene Access Audio Commentary Bonus Trailers Deleted Scenes Closed Captioned My Thoughts: Until this movie was given to me I didn't even know they made it. But I was pretty excited when it was offered to me as I did enjoy the first one. So I went into this one hoping for a good movie. And I feel I definitely got that. It has been a while since I saw the first one. But I think this is one of those rare cases where I enjoyed this one a bit more then the first one. I never heard of the actress that played the teen girl (Jordan Hinson) in this one... but the one that played her little brother (Bobby Coleman) looked rather familiar to me. Turns out he was in the short lived TV Series Surface. I was a little concerned since I never hear of her before... but Jordan Hinson did a fine job in the role. Bobby Coleman done a fine job as well... but his part really was much smaller. I also liked Angie Harmon in the role of "The Good Mother." I would definitely say this one is worth checking out. Video: Anamorphic Widescreen 1.78:1 Audio: English: Dolby Digital: 5.1, English: Dolby Digital: 2-Channel Stereo Subtitles: English, Spanish Stars:Charisma Carpenter Marcus L. Brown Ricky Wayne Collin Galyean Kyle Clements Corin Nemec Plot:Psychic, Heather Burton (Charisma Carpenter, "Angel") and a team of TV ghost hunters travel to investigate a haunted house surrounded by rumors of paranormal activity. Upon their arrival they find a foreboding house with a mind of its own, and as darkness falls, the house begins to kill the crew one by one. With time running out, will they be able to outwit this terror and make it out alive? Extras:Scene Access Bonus Trailers My Thoughts: I have forgotten about this one when I bought it... but I did indeed see this movie before. When it originally aired on the Syfy Channel back in January 2010. I got this one mainly because I like Charisma Carpenter. The movie is better then I was expecting it to be. Sure some of the effects were cheesy... and there was some predictable stuff in it. But I definitely enjoyed it. Charisma Carpenter plays a psychic that joins one of those shows where they go off investigating supposedly haunted houses called Sinister Sites. On her very first episode they end up in the "real thing". While it may not be the best haunted house movie I ever seen... I am glad I added it to my collection. It's worth the time put into it to watch it. My Rating: 3.5/5 | | | Pete |
