Internet, gaming, online shopping have replaced old habits. It is evolution, if you like it or not. Another example: Today you chat thru the internet with your friends and write emails. There are many elements of the community that could use help - kids who need to learn to read (in Spanish), tutoring in math or computers, older people who just need a friendly face to come by and visit - the list goes on and on ...
History is filled with accounts of intelligent people, bored with the 'ordinary", who turned out to be "extraordinary" once they found a cause to motivate their enthusiam and creativity. Perhaps your son is one of them?
Best of luck to you. That's an excelent idea  . Don't know why it never occurred to me to look into that before. The job was important, not because it kept him out of the apartment or for the money, but because it was teaching him self-reliance and responsibility. He liked his job and the people he worked with and he's a little disappointed that they let him go. I told him that in this economy we were pretty fortunate that we found him that job so quickly but that in these hard times, small business are having to tighten their belts too. And if you develop a passion for a cause that helps your fellow man, you can achieve success and admiration from the community. Not sure if this can help, but maybe mention to him that most girls don't dig video games or gamers and let the teen hormones take care of the rest. I was early 20's when I quit, so it can be done. |
