LPs only retained value because they are better than CDs in some ways. DVDs are headed for the $.79 rack at Goodwill unless they are movies that stayed out of print. Those are already valuable. The format doesn't factor in much.

Doesn't really matter about the lifespan of the media itself, it matters on how long new media will be manufactured.

Once they stop producing DVD's and Blu-Rays, it'll signal the start of the end but the end will still be far, far away.
